Ruben Amorim is set to take charge of his first game as Manchester United boss on Sunday and captain Bruno Fernandes has returned to training after leaving international duty early
Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has trained under new boss Ruben Amorim for the first time ahead of his first game in charge this weekend.
Amorim’s first game as United manager is on Sunday, when the 39-year-old Portuguese boss takes his squad to Ipswich in the Premier League.
Former Sporting Lisbon head coach Amorim has overseen two training sessions with a limited group of players, with many of his squad still away on international duty.
United stars Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans and Leny Yoro all took part in Amorim’s first training session on Monday.
But they were joined yesterday by skipper Fernandes, who was released from international duty with Portugal due to being suspended for Monday’s 1-1 draw against Croatia, enabling him to go straight into training with compatriot Amorim.
With many of United’s other international stars not due to report back for training until Wednesday and Thursday, Amorim will have little time to work with his full complement of charges ahead of the trip to Portman Road.
But the new United boss has wasted no time in implementing his ideas and vision, with footage from his opening session showing the team set up in his preferred 3-4-3 formation in a practice match.
Amorim’s back three comprised Evans, Yoro and Shaw, although the latter two are making their way back from long-term injury lay-offs and will not be thrown straight into the starting line-up on Sunday.
United captain Fernandes is certain to start on Sunday and is likely to be joined in the line-up by Casemiro, Amad and Rashford, with Mount also in contention for a starting place.
