Man Utd make plans to sign ‘top goalkeeper’ despite Senne Lammens transfer

By staff22 September 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Manchester United signed Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on the final day of the summer transfer window but have now decided to target a top goalkeeper next summer

18:49, 22 Sep 2025Updated 18:50, 22 Sep 2025

Manchester United will pursue a ‘major goalkeeper’ in next summer’s transfer window after Ruben Amorim confirmed that neither Altay Bayindir or the club’s most recent signing, Senne Lammens, are locked in as the team’s No 1.

Bayindir has started all of United’s Premier League fixtures at the start of the 2025-26 campaign after Andre Onana endured another difficult season. The Cameroon star has since left Old Trafford on loan, joining Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig after losing his spot in the team.

United responded by sealing an £18.2million deal for Lammens on the final day of the summer transfer window. However, the 23-year-old Belgian is viewed as a quality prospect for the future and is not guaranteed to play ahead of Bayindir, who looked more assured in Saturday evening’s 2-1 win over Chelsea.

But despite spending a significant sum on Lammens just weeks ago, The Sun claim that United plan to bolster their goalkeeping options again next summer, with an elite shot-stopper on the club’s wishlist with Onana moving to Turkey.

It remains to be seen who the Red Devils will target, though. They also weighed up a move for Emi Martinez before pressing ahead with a deadline day swoop for Lammens after seeing an audacious loan bid for the Aston Villa goalkeeper rejected earlier in the transfer window. It’s understood he would have cost significantly more than Lammens, who is viewed as Belgium’s next No 1 keeper.

Onana was signed for a fee in excess of £47m back in the summer of 2023 as the club decided to part ways with their long-term No 1, David de Gea. However, Onana has looked a shadow of the goalkeeper who starred for Inter Milan, making a string of errors during his time at Old Trafford.

Bayindir has also struggled to convince when deputising for Onana. He was at fault for the only goal of the game in United’s 1-0 loss against Arsenal on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season but has been picked for all five league games so far this term.

“No, nobody has a place that is his place,” Amorim said recently when he was asked if Bayindir was now United’s first-choice keeper. “Everyone has to fight. Everyone is fighting for a place. I’m just trying to win games, trying to see what is the best option to win the next game.

“So, in the end of the season, maybe it’s a different team on the pitch. We are just trying to win games. Trying to get the best connections to play better and, in the end, to win points.”
