Manchester United have made an underwhelming start to the season and there is already speculation over the future of manager Erik ten Hag after he almost lost his job in the summer

The season may only a month old but the pressure is already starting to build on Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United have won just three of their seven games to date since the new campaign kicked off in August to pile even more pressure on Ten Hag, who almost lost his job in the summer after the club sounded out other managers.

Unfortunately for the Dutchman, United’s disappointing draw with FC Twente in the Europa League on Wednesday has only increased the scrutiny on him ahead of this weekend’s home fixture with Tottenham.

Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest news from in and around Old Trafford ahead of Sunday’s big match…

Solskjaer drops return hint

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has refused to rule out a return to Manchester United when the former manager was asked about another stint in the hot seat.

The Norwegian, who enjoyed an illustrious playing career with the Red Devils, was previously at the helm for just shy of three years before he was dismissed by the club’s top brass back in November 2021 following a poor run of form.

Erik ten Hag was appointed as Solskjaer’s permanent successor the following summer but is once again under pressure – and when Solskjaer was put on the spot over a managing United again, he admitted it would be difficult to say no.

Omar Berrada has told staff members at Manchester United that the club are aiming to win the Premier League title in 2028 to coincide with their 150th anniversary.

The club’s new chief executive officer, who officially started work in his new role back in the summer, revealed those plans at a staff meeting which was held at Old Trafford last week.

United were formed back in 1878 as Newton Heath before renaming in 1902. The club last won the Premier League title back in 2013, which was Sir Alex Ferguson’s final year in charge.

Ten Hag’s message to fans

Erik ten Hag has pleaded for the club’s fans to stick with him and show patience in the wake of their indifferent start to the season.

United have won three of their first seven matches this term and the pressure is already ramping up on the Dutchman, who almost lost his job at the end of last season.

But ahead of this weekend’s meeting with Tottenham, Ten Hag has urged fans to remain patient as the team are still a work in progress following a number of new summer signings.
