Man Utd news: Ruben Amorim’s transfer priority confirmed as ‘worst ever signing’ singled out

By staff10 September 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Manchester United will clash with Manchester City this Sunday in a huge match for Ruben Amorim and Co following the conclusion of the September international break

Manchester United and Ruben Amorim will step up their preparations for this weekend’s Manchester derby with the majority of this week’s international fixtures now wrapped up.

The Red Devils picked up their first Premier League win of the season just before the break with a dramatic 3-2 win over Burnley. Amorim and Co will look to follow that up with victory away at Manchester City before further fixtures with Chelsea, Brentford and Sunderland before the October international break.

United bolstered their squad on deadline with the signing of Senne Lammens and he could make his debut as early as this weekend with Andre Onana on his way to Trabzonspor, though Altay Bayindir has started all three games in the league so far this season.

As Amorim weighs up his selection debates and steps up preparations for Sunday’s huge game, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest news from Old Trafford…

Amorim’s transfer priority

Manchester United will seek a new midfielder in the January transfer window after deciding against making a move for Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, it has been claimed.

The Red Devils are big admirers of Baleba, 21, but Brighton are unlikely to part ways with the midfielder unless United or any other suitor were to put together a package similar to the £115million deal that took Moises Caicedo to Chelsea previously.

Reports in Europe claim that United still want to add a midfielder and will look to do so in January; it remains to be seen, though, if that player will be Baleba or another target.

‘Worst ever signing’ singled out

Jamie Carragher has questioned Jadon Sancho’s ability after the Aston Villa loanee was dubbed Manchester United’s ‘worst ever signing’ by YouTuber Adam McKola.

Sancho, 25, joined United for £73m back in 2021 but has failed to impress and joined Villa on loan in the final hours of the summer transfer window. Carragher, speaking on The Overlap, didn’t brand Sancho as United’s worst ever signing as McKola suggested but he did claim that the former Borussia Dortmund star ‘lacks ability’. He said: “When you say he’s the worst Man Utd signing because of his ability… I’m not sure there’s much ability there. I think he’s okay but I don’t understand what his thing is. I’ve been critical of Marcus Rashford but if I picture him playing well I can picture his pace and his shooting.

“I don’t know what Sancho’s thing is. Every player has something but I can’t think in my head what he does. I’ve never seen it in my life. I haven’t.”

Zidane decides on new job

Zinedine Zidane has long been admired by – and linked to – Manchester United and the French icon looks set to finally return to management – but it won’t be with Fenerbahce.

The former Real Madrid manager was reported to be in the running to replace a former Red Devils manager in Jose Mourinho at the Turkish Super Lig outfit. But it’s now emerged via L’Equipe that Zidane is preparing to become France’s next head coach following the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.
