Man Utd transfer news: Alejandro Garnacho move hits issue amid Rasmus Hojlund exit update

By staff28 August 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Manchester United are still to offload a number of their fringe players with Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund look to secures moves away from Old Trafford

Manchester United’s summer recruitment may well be over for now – bar their pursuit of a goalkeeper – with Ruben Amorim aiming to get players out of Old Trafford in the coming week.

Belgian shotstopper Senne Lammens is still on their radar and talks continue with Royal Antwerp, but much of their focus is on offloading individuals who have fallen down the pecking order. Marcus Rashford is the only big name to achieve an exit thus far, joining Barcelona.

Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony remain at the club. The latter pair spent last season away on loan and whilst the preference is for permanent sales, United may settle on temporary exits if time is against them.

Real Betis are keen on having Antony back whilst Sancho is thought to have turned down a move to Roma. Rasmus Hojlund meanwhile is close to an Italian return. Here’s the latest from the red side of Manchester.

Garnacho blow

Chelsea are not prepared to meet United’s valuation for Garnacho. The Manchester club want around £50m for the winger – down on their asking price from January – but front-runners Chelsea aren’t prepared to go that high.

The west Londoner’s valuation sits between £25m and £35m. The Blues are believed to have agreed terms with the player, who has reportedly turned down interest from elsewhere and has set his sights on Stamford Bridge – something which could be to Chelsea’s benefit in negotiations with United.

United have attempted to justify their valuation by pointing to Chelsea’s sale of Noni Madueke, according to The Times. Madueke, who scored seven goals to Garnacho’s six across comparable league minutes last term, joined Arsenal for £48m plus add-ons in July.

Hojlund still wants to stay

Rasmus Hojlund is closing on a Manchester exit but the young striker is still ‘desperate’ to remain at Old Trafford despite the big money signing of Sesko. It’s no secret that Hojlund is now effectively surplus to requirements.

The Dane has been the subject of strong interest from Napoli and a deal to take the former Atalanta man back to Italy, initially on loan, is now at an advanced stage. However, The Daily Mail report that Hojlund’s preference by far would be to stay and fight for his place at United – even though he was left out of the matchday squad for Sunday’s draw with Fulham.

While Hojlund would rather stay the expectation is that he will still leave Old Trafford before the September 1 deadline, which will ease the burden on their resources.

Worrying squad value figures

United’s continued failures in the transfer market is best summed up by research and data which shows that their squad is now worth more than £300million LESS than they actually paid for it. Their squad cost vs their actual value presents the largest deficit in the Premier League.

They are £322.9m in the minus. They’ve spent £1.1billion but their squad is actually valued at £769m by Transfermarkt. For context, Arsenal are the best in the Premier League in this department. Their squad is worth £315.9m more than they actually paid – £826m vs £1.1bn.
