Manchester United are heading into a crucial summer transfer window. Tuesday brought news that a breakthrough had been reached in their pursuit of Wolves star Matheus Cunha.

United have activated the £62.5million release clause in his contract, with the Brazilian now set for a medical. Attention will now turn to who heads out of the exit door, with United desperately needing to raise funds in order to recruit more players.

One player who seems certain to leave is Marcus Rashford, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Aston Villa. The Englishman is unlikely to return to the fold under United boss Ruben Amorim.

Villa do have a £40m option to buy clause, with United keen to sell him. But Rashford himself is eyeing a move to Barcelona, who have now opened talks with his representatives.

Elsewhere, it appears United are set to miss out on another of their top targets to Premier League rivals Newcastle. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United transfer news.

Newcastle swoop for Mbeumo

Newcastle have swooped in for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, who is also being tracked by Manchester United. The Magpies are keen to move quickly this summer ahead of sporting director Paul Mitchell.

They have set their sights on Mbeumo, with The Telegraph reporting the Toon are lining up a bid for the Cameroon international. It is expected that a fee between £50m and £60m would be enough to tempt the Bees into a sale.

United had also expressed an interest in signing the 25-year-old, but their focus is on wrapping up deals for Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap. Newcastle are said to be hoping a swift move can see them secure Mbeumo before United have a chance to act.

Manchester United are lining up a move for Paris Saint-Germain star Lee Kang-in. The South Korean international appears free to leave the Parc des Princes this summer, with his future in the French capital uncertain.

Talks over a new contract have stalled, with PSG ready to sanction an exit this summer. According to CaughtOffside, United have launched a move for the 24-year-old after Ruben Amorim identified him as a top target.

The Red Devils do face competiton from Atletico Madrid, Napoli, Arsenal, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest, who have all also made contact or registered interest.

Rashford holds Barca talks

Marcus Rashford’s representatives have held talks with Barcelona sporting director Deco as they look to secure a move to the La Liga giants. Rashford is set to leave United this summer, with Barca his preferred destination.

According to Sport, Rashford’s agent met with Deco on Wednesday morning to discuss a potential deal. Barca view Rashford as an alternative to Luis Diaz and are set to pursue a loan move, including a purchase option.

While United would prefer to sell, Barca hope to exploit their desire to see the attacker leave. The La Liga side have told Rashford to be patient, with Wednesday’s meeting held to ‘exchange views’ and confirm both parties’ desire to get a deal done.
