Manchester United’s summer transfer plans are now fully focused on signing a striker, with Viktor Gyokeres their top target, though Sporting Lisbon are reluctant to sell
Manchester United’s full focus is now on signing a new striker after being snubbed by Liam Delap. Viktor Gyokeres is now their top target following a stunning two-year spell with Sporting Lisbon.
He has fired them to two successive Primeira Liga titles, as well as this season’s Taca de Portugal. Sporting are understood to be willing to sell him, though they have risen the price tag they initially set out.
That has spooked a number of suitors, with Gyokeres growing increasingly frustrated over the lack of movement. So much so that the Swedish striker is now threatening to go on strike to force a transfer.
That comes as Sporting boss Rui Borges delivered a cryptic update on the future of the 27-year-old. Meanwhile, Brighton star Pervis Estupinan has issued a come-and-get-me plea to interested suitors.
United have been heavily linked with a move for the Ecuador international and his comments could boost their pursuit. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United transfer news.

Gyokeres to ‘go on strike’
Viktor Gyokeres is ready to go on strike to force through a transfer exit from Sporting Lisbon. The Swedish star has become one of the hottest properties in Europe, having scored 97 goals in two years in Portugal.
But the 27-year-old is growing increasingly frustrated over the lack of movement over a potential deal. Sporting are making life hard for interested suitors, which has infuriated Gyokeres, who has made his desire to move clear.
Now in an effort to force through an exit, Record reports that Gyokeres has informed the Portuguese champions that he will not play for the club agin. The striker is said to feel ‘disrespected’ by Sporting chiefs and is angry over broken promises.
Estupinan issues come-and-get-me plea
Brighton left back Pervis Estupinan has admitted he is looking to move on from the Seagulls this summer. He has impressed since arriving from Villarreal, drawing the attenion of Manchester United
“The truth is they have been three years in Brighton with a lot of learning,” said Estupinan. But this will be a transfer market with a lot of movement. The club know that I would like to grow, that I would like to keep growing.
“The club have understood this. I’ve spoken to the club. The club have given me this bit of freedom to be able to make a decision. Now we will try to see better what is on the table and to see where we can go.”
Sporting boss in cryptic Gyokeres update
Sporting Lisbon boss Rui Borges has refused to confirm Viktor Gyokeres’ future at the club. The striker is desperate to secure a move this summer having emerged as one of Europe’s hottest strikers.
The Portuguese giants are less keen to allow him to leave though, prompting a rift to form. And Borges has refused to discuss the future of the Swedish, as he was handed a tribute by his hometown of Mirandela.
“Gyökeres? Sporting’s future begins on July 1st. That’s all I can say and today I’m here to, above all, salute this tribute that was paid to me. That’s all. I’m on vacation, I’m not here to talk about that”, Borges said.
