Hugo Ferreira, 37, from South Africa, sexually assaulted his one week old daughter after her mum went to buy her some nappies from the shop. He murdered her because she kept crying
A depraved father raped and killed his newborn baby before setting his sights on the mother and threatening to kill her unless he went to prison.
Hugo Ferreira, from Welverdiend, South Africa, murdered his eight-day-old baby after she cried and needed her nappy changing. The twisted dad then threatened his now, ex-partner, and said he would end her life. The 37-year-old warned that he would kill her if he didn’t get put in jail. It comes after the victim’s mother, Maureen Brand, popped into the shops to get some nappies on June 8, 2023.
But by the time she got home, Ferreira was acting suspicious and attempted to hide their daughter from her. The baby had endured severe injuries after he had “pushed her head against” the surface.

The Pretoria High Court heard that he wanted to “give her something to cry about”, so launched the brutal attack. He was aware that the baby could die but continued to beat and rape her because she was crying.
He provided a sick reason for the sexual assault and said he was “unhappy” that he had to care for his baby, whilst Brand popped into the shop. According to News 24, she had told Ferreira that she would be home in five minutes, but reportedly took longer than intended.
Admitting exactly what he had done, Ferreira said: “I grabbed the baby hard and in the process, I pushed her head against the surface on which I was working.”
Ferreira said he knew what he had done was “illegal”, but explained that he wasn’t ready to stop the attack. He claimed that he had taken methamphetamine, but further explained that it didn’t influence him in his decisions.
“I accept that it was a cruel and gruesome attack, especially on such a young baby. The action was clearly illegal and I did it with intent.”
He added: “When her mother returned, I realised she would see that something was wrong. I kept the baby away from her until later in the day. I did this because I realised the baby was seriously injured.”
He is set to be sentenced this week.
