Manchester United midfielder Casemiro may have left the club in a tricky position with his determination to remain at Old Trafford despite transfer interest arriving from elsewhere

Manchester United face a dilemma with midfielder Casemiro determined to remain at the club this season.

The Premier League’s transfer window has been shut for almost a week, while the possibility of a move to the Saudi Pro League has also diminished. Nevertheless the possibility of a move to Turkey has been touted.

Galatasaray have been linked with completing a deal for the 32-year-old former Real Madrid star with deals to the Super Lig possible for another eight days. Okan Buruk’s side have already taken advantage of their extended period available to land Victor Osimhen on loan, and have shortlisted Casemiro as they look to strengthen in midfield.

It is unlikely however, that the Turkish side could match his £375,000-per-week that sees him as United’s top-earner. And the Brazilian, who has been left out of his national squad for fixtures against Ecuador and Paraguay, has little interest in leaving Old Trafford.

Instead, Casemiro is looking to return to the heights he found in his first season at the club, and being hauled off after 45 minutes against Liverpool has not inspired him to move elsewhere, per the Mail. The five-times Champions League winner was a target of criticism from Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher once again, months on from being urged to ‘call it a day’ by the former Liverpool defender.

United now face the prospect of their top-earner being left among the substitutes following the signing of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain. The Uruguay international was not eligible to face the Reds at Old Trafford having not completed his transfer in time but after making the £50million move will be expected to come into the starting XI.

Erik ten Hag has already admitted it could take months before Ugarte becomes an important player however. That could yet leave Casemiro with some opportunity to prove himself before dropping down the pecking order.

“It will take time. It’s not like I’m Harry Potter. That’s what you have to acknowledge,” said United’s boss. “If you see [new signing] Manuel Ugarte, he didn’t play so far in the season. Not one match minute. So he needs to build his fitness and then we have to build him in the team and I’m sure he’ll be an important player.

“But that will take a couple of weeks, maybe even months. Joshua Zirkzee, he made big steps in the last three or four weeks and I was very pleased with his performance today.”
