Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim took a huge swipe at Marcus Rashford after the Red Devils beat Fulham and the 27-year-old has now broken his silence on social media
Marcus Rashford praised his Manchester United team-mates for their win over Fulham – despite Ruben Amorim claiming he would rather put his 63-year-old goalkeeper coach on the bench instead of the forward.
Speaking after United’s 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday, Amorim was asked about Rashford’s future with the January transfer window set to slam shut soon. “We missed a little bit of pace to go and change the game and move some pieces,” Amorim said.
“But I prefer it like that. I would put [goalkeeper coach Jorge] Vital before I put the player who does not give the maximum every day so I will not change in that department. It’s always the same reason. The reason is the training.
“The way I see what a footballer should do in training, in life, every day. If things don’t change, I will not change. Same situation for every player, if you do the maximum, if you do the right things, we can use every player.”
And Rashford has since taken to Instagram, sharing a short message on his story that simply read: “Congratulations on the win lads”. Rashford has not featured in any of United’s last 11 games across all competitions, having first been dropped for the Manchester derby last month.
After that game, Rashford suggested in an interview that he was ready to leave Old Trafford, stating:. “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United.
“That’s me as a person. If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’e seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.”
Rashford has been heavily linked with a loan move to Barcelona, but it remains to be seen whether a deal can be finalised before the window slams shut. “I don’t know,” Amorim said before the Fulham game when asked if Rashford could be reintegrated into the squad.
“I really don’t know. Guys, it’s eight days. We will see in the end of the window what happened. And then we will talk about that in the moment.”
United’s win over Fulham leaves them 12th in the Premier League and they will be in action twice next week when they take on Steaua Bucharest in the Europa League on Thursday before hosting Crystal Palace on Sunday.
