Marcus Rashford scored both goals in Barcelona’s impressive 2-1 win away at Newcastle in the Champions League and then immediately set his sights on winning the competition
Marcus Rashford scored a sensational double – and then set his sights on winning the Champions League with Barcelona. Rashford got his first goals for Barcelona in front of England boss Thomas Tuchel as he ruined Newcastle ’s big night at St James’s Park.
England star Rashford, on a season-long loan at Barcelona from Manchester United, says the move has reinvigorated his career and he believes they can win the trophy. When asked the limit of Barcelona’s ambitions, Rashford said: “It’s only to win it. Nothing else is on our minds. We know how tough the competition is.
“Playing for Barcelona is an amazing experience. I’ve always been a huge admirer of Barcelona. We want to win as much as possible.

“100% I’m full of excitement. I’m very motivated and determined. The quality we have in the team excites me. It’s so refreshing to play with these players.”
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick was full of praise for Rashford and his sensational double as he admitted as soon as the chance came to sign him he had to grasp the opportunity. Flick said: “When we had this chance, I said we had to do it. For me, he’s an outstanding player.
“I’m not surprised. He’s a fantastic player, his skills are unbelievable, his finishing is unbelievable and he’s such an important player. We need a player like him.
“I think it’s great. He has great quality. Two goals against Newcastle, it’s great for his confidence and for his belief. But it’s the first step. These goals are unbelievable for him for the next steps.”
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted he was disappointed as Anthony Gordon’s late consolation could not save their night.
Howe said: “It was a good performance, strong effort. These nights are only magical for us if we win. But we’ll learn and grow our game from nights like this.
“We kept going until the end. That’s what we pride ourselves on. They managed the extra time well – we were desperate for the ball but couldn’t get it off them.”
