Marcus Rashford warned Aston Villa are ‘too wise’ to sign him from Man Utd permanently

Marcus Rashford has made six goal contributions in 10 appearances since joining Aston Villa on loan in January, but former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes they will not sign him permanently

Marcus Rashford has been told Aston Villa are “too canny and too wise” to make his loan move permanent. Rashford joined Villa in the January transfer window and has found some form under Unai Emery, having been frozen out at Manchester United by Ruben Amorim.

As a result, there has been plenty of speculation about what the future may hold for Rashford and former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes Villa are not interested in keeping him due to his huge wage demands.

“I could have bet you any money in the world that Rashford would come alive for Aston Villa,” Jordan told talkSPORT. “Fantastic, but wait until Villa have got to write a cheque out. I think they’re too canny and too wise to fall into this trap.

“It’s one thing having a player on loan, playing a small percent of his wages so it’s a small transaction. You have him for four months, it costs you £5-6million, nothing, nobody cares. Everybody knew Marcus Rashford was going to lift a leg at Villa.

“I think the system helps as well. I just think Villa are too wise for it and first of all, they’re not going to want to pay over £300,000 a week and a transfer fee. It’s too big of a deal.”

Jordan’s comments come after Villa boss Unai Emery gave a non-committal answer when asked about Rashford’s future following his player of the match performance in their FA Cup quarter-final win over Preston North End.

Villa do have an option to make Rashford’s loan move permanent for £40million in the summer and when asked if a decision had been made, Emery replied: “Not yet. The most important thing is the challenge now and this afternoon, recovering and then preparing for the match against Brighton tomorrow.

“Still there are a lot of matches to play. If we are in the Champions League, if we are in the Europa League, if we are in the European Conference League or not in Europe or winning a trophy, it is completely different.

“A decision about each individual players… it is to get the best of them and the best of us. We don’t want to waste time thinking about it.”

‌However, Emery was full of praise for Rashford’s performances since joining the club, with the forward having produced six goal contributions in 10 games. “Firstly, his commitment to work and adapt quickly is very important. He is doing it,” Emery added.

“To feel comfortable playing at his best level, there is still work to do. Weeks to get it. Today, he did one step forward, feeling comfortable, gaining confidence and scoring goals.

“There is still work to do and adaptation to get together, the teammates and himself. Today, I think this was one step forward.

“He was coming here in the last two months not training consistently and not feeling very fit in the first matches with us. After playing more and with the national team, it has helped him to feel better. Today was confirmation of his progression with us.”
