Los Angeles’ district attorney announced that charges won’t be filed against Marilyn Manson over allegations of domestic violence and sexual assault, years after an investigation was opened into the claims of multiple women
Los Angeles County has announced that they won’t file charges against Marilyn Manson.
The musician – real name Brian Hugh Warner – was facing charges of domestic and sexual abuse, with investigations launched into allegations of incidents from 2009 to 2011. Now, however, prosecutors have judged that allegations are either beyond the statute of limitation or cannot be proven.
According to The Guardian, Nathan Hochman, Los Angeles county district attorney, announced in a statement: “We have determined that allegations of domestic violence fall outside of the statute of limitations, and we cannot prove charges of sexual assault beyond a reasonable doubt.”
The lawyer added: “We recognize and applaud the courage and resilience of the women who came forward to make reports and share their experiences, and we thank them for their cooperation and patience with the investigation.”
Marilyn Manson has responded to the judgement via his attorney, Howard King. “We are very pleased that, after a thorough and incredibly lengthy review of all of the actual evidence, the District Attorney has concluded what we knew and expressed from the start – Brian Warner is innocent,” Kind said in a statement provided to the Daily Mail.
Prior to this most recent announcement, the investigation seemed to be developing further. On October 9 of last year, previous district attorney, George Gascón, said that new leads were being pursued alongside their “already extensive” file against Manson.
The charges being dropped stem from a 2021 investigation, looking into claims from years prior. A search warrant was served on Manson’s West Hollywood home, and further investigation has taken place up until now, with the decision not to file charges.
The announcement comes just days after Channel 4 aired a documentary, Marilyn Manson: Unmasked, which spoke to fans, his musical collaborators, and his former partner Evan Rachel Wood about the allegations made about him.
In the second of two episodes, Evan spoke about allegedly being raped by Manson on the set of one of his music videos. The actress began dating Manson when she was only 18, and he was 37. She recalled wearing Lolita-inspired heart-shaped glasses to see him one day, inspiring his song Heart-Shaped Glasses, which he asked his then-girlfriend to appear in the music video of.
The actress claimed that there was tension as soon as she arrived on the set, and had previously been told that there would be a sex scene – but it didn’t take place as she’d expected.
