The Money Saving Expert (MSE) website founder returned to screens tonight for the final Martin Lewis Money Show of the year, with tonight’s show covering the car finance scandal, Winter Fuel Payments, and bank switches
Martin Lewis has issued a “last chance” warning to Brits as there is not much time left to grab some free extra cash before Christmas.
The Money Saving Expert (MSE) website founder returned to screens tonight for the final Martin Lewis Money Show of the year. Tonight’s show covered a range of topics, including the car finance scandal, Winter Fuel Payments, and bank switches. The MSE founder told viewers that they did not have long left to bag themselves an extra £200 before Christmas this year.
Brits can get the extra cash from bank switching incentives but warned that these offers are set to disappear soon. Martin shared that Lloyds Bank – which is giving you £200 to switch – is ending tonight at midnight while Natwest – which is paying £180 – is pulling its offer tomorrow on Wednesday, December 11.
If you squeeze in a switch to Lloyds Bank before tomorrow, it promises to give you the cash within three days. Natwest says it will pay the switching incentive within seven days.
However, It’s important to know that you only get the money from Lloyds if you switch to either a Club Lloyds account, a Club Lloyds Platinum account or a Club Lloyds Silver account. The Club Lloyds account does come with a charge of £3 a month, although you can waive this fee if you deposit £2,000 in a month. You also have to pay £22.50 a month for the Club Lloyds platinum account and £11.50 a month for the Silver account – with a £3 fee on top if you don’t deposit £2,000 each month.
With NatWest, you must switch to the Current Account Switching Service (CASS), pay £1,250 into the account, and log into the mobile app within 60 days of switching. Again, it’s important to know that this cash bonus is only available to customers who open NatWest’s Reward account, not its Everyday or Select current account.
The MSE founder also highlighted that Nationwide’s £175 switching bonus will arrive within 10 days of the switch being completed – meaning it should just sneak in ahead of Christmas Day if applied for this week. Martin also noted that Santander and First Direct are also offering between £150 and £175 to new customers however speculates that these offers could be pulled soon.
