Matheus Cunha is set to have a host of teams chasing his signature this summer after publicly stating his desire for a new challenge – and the Wolves star is said to have a £62.5million release clause
Wolves star Matheus Cunha has a release clause in his contract of around £62.5million. The Brazilian is hot property this season after firing in 13 goals for the Premier League outfit and is now believed to have a number of big teams chasing him.
Cunha only just extended his deal at Molineux in January but it is believed that the inclusion of the release clause was a key factor in agreeing a new deal. And just months after penning his contract extension, the 25-year-old has already expressed a desire for a new challenge this summer.
According to BBC Sport, Cunha’s release clause can be activated by interested clubs at the end of the summer – and the price will not be reduced in the event Wolves are relegated.
It adds that Wolves are now in control of any potential sale for a player they signed for around £35m in 2023, so they are guaranteed to make a sizeable profit on him.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for Cunha and were rumoured to be interested in putting in a bid in January before he signed a new deal.
Other clubs said to be monitoring his situation are Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool. Cunha made it clear he is keen to test himself at the highest level after coming out with a statement telling interested parties he wants to challenge for titles.
“I had a lot of offers (to leave in January) but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it,’ he said. “Some things you can’t control but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.
“Now, we’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”
Cunha has played a total of 85 games for Wolves in the last three seasons, netting 31 goals. He is currently suspended until the middle of next month after he was banned for three matches for kicking out at Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and headbutting him earlier this month.
