Max George addressed the cancellation of his Celebrity MasterChef Christmas special, and noted that Gregg Wallace’s investigation was ‘much more important’

The Wanted star Max George, 36, has spoken out after news of Celebrity MasterChef ’s Christmas cancellation.

Max was set to be on the show – but despite the fact that he’s already donned his apron, his episodes won’t be broadcast as planned. Max shared a photo of himself in the MasterChef kitchen on Instagram, and shared a few words about the BBC ’s decision to axe the show. “Was looking forward to Masterchef Xmas special, but obviously there are much more important matters going on,” the musician shared.

Many of Max’s fans were quick to voice their disappointment in the comment section, with the former football player taking the time to respond. Max emphasized that he had no hard feelings about the cancellation, and was happy to step back while the investigation into Gregg Wallace, 60, is underway.

One fan raged: “It’s so frustrating that because of a certain individual, people on the show such as yourself don’t get to share their appearance on it with us,” along with a crying emoji. “It’s ok! I’m sure I’ll be cooking again soon. It’s a very serious investigation so we have to respect that,” Max responded.

A second fan wrote: “I’m so sorry about what happened, hope you’re okay.” Max simply stated: “It’s nothing to do with me.”

Max isn’t the only festive contestant to speak out after the Christmas special was dropped. Former Love Island star Luca Bish also shared a photo of himself in the kitchen this week, and wrote: “Christmas is cancelled. Gutted our Christmas special has been put on hold but hope to be on your screens again soon.”

Last week, Gregg was put under investigation due to historic complaints that he’d made “sexual comments” on set of MasterChef, with Newsnight host Kirsty Wark is among 13 people who have accused the MasterChef presenter of making inappropriate sexual comments or jokes.

The BBC host stepped down from MasterChef amid the investigation, but responded to the accusations with a series of posts on Instagram. He apologised on Monday for claiming complaints about his behaviour came from “a handful of middle-class women of a certain age,” and added that he will now “take some time out” and stay away from social media.

Despite Gregg’s decision to step back, the BBC announced earlier today that they’d decided to drop the MasterChef Christmas specials from its roster. The broadcaster previously announced a Celebrity MasterChef Cook Off and a Strictly Festive Extravaganza as part of its festive schedule, both billed as hour-long programmes for BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

A BBC spokesperson said: “As we have said, MasterChef is an amazing competition which is life-changing for the chefs taking part and the current series of MasterChef: The Professionals is continuing as planned. The celebrity Christmas specials are obviously a different type of show and in the current circumstances we have decided not to broadcast them.”
