A host of celebrities took to London’s Royal Albert Hall on Sunday night to cheer on the winners of the 2025 Olivier Awards – celebrating the best in theatre and stage
A string of A List stars were out in their finest on Sunday night to celebrate the best in the theatre business at the 2025 Olivier Awards. Hosted by Beverley Knight and Billy Porter at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall, celebrities including Naomi Campbell, Maya Jama and Elizabeth Debicki were in attendance to see if Titanique would triumph over Spirited Away in the Best New Entertainment or Comedy Play category – and who would be crowned best actor or actress.
Former X Factor star Lucie Jones was in attendance to watch the ceremony, as was former EastEnders stars Rose Ayling-Ellis and Kara Tointon. Idris Elba wowed on the red carpet and gave some manly steel to the proceedings, while Cate Blanchett was among the other big name stars also attending.
As the night went on, Lesley Manville was announced as the Best Actress for her role in historic tragedy Oedipus – triumphing over fellow nominees Heather Agyepong, Rosie Sheehy, Meera Syal and Indira Varma. While for the men, it was John Lithgow – who was recently announced to be playing Albus Dumbledore in a new TV adaptation of Harry Potter – who was crowned Best Actor for his role in the play Giant.
This meant that recent Oscar winner Adrien Brody, American actor Billy Crudup, British star Paapa Essiedu – who is tipped to play Severus Snape in the new Harry Potter show – and British star Mark Strong lost out on the coveted award. Titanique – a musical comedy about the Titanic featuring music by Celine Dion – did indeed win the Best New Entertainment or Comedy Play award.
While other big winners on the night were Eline Arbo who won Best Director for the play The Years, and Festen for Best New Opera. The awards are described: “Established in 1976, the Olivier Awards celebrate the world-class status of London theatre, and are Britain’s most prestigious stage honours.”
During the ceremony, actress and singer Linda Nolan was remembered three months after her devastating death. The Loose Women star had a sparkling career on stage with The Nolans and as a theatre actress, having performed in the likes of Blood Brothers, Prisoner: Cell Block H and appearing on dozens of popular TV shows.
Linda was featured in a black and white image with flawless makeup and sparkly earrings, with her memorial reading: “Linda Nolan. Actor & Recording Artist.”
