McDonald’s removes menu item due to ‘issue’ after just days after it was launched

The fast food chain has confirmed it has removed the item from its menus across the country following complaints over the treat and its “quality control issue”

McDonald’s has been forced to pull an item from its menu due to a “quality control issue”.

The fast food giant confirmed it had withdrawn the new Caramel Loaded McFlurry from outlets nationwide following a barrage of complaints about the dessert.

The decision was made after the McFlurry, which was launched on September 10 as part of the restaurant’s seasonal menu, came under fire from customers. The dessert was described as soft dairy ice cream swirled with caramel cubes, white chocolate-covered shortbread pieces, and milk chocolate chips, all topped off with a caramel sauce.

However, many McDonald’s patrons took issue with the new treat, claiming that the caramel cubes within the ice cream were “rock hard”.

One customer, Helen Richards, even took to Facebook to caution others about the dessert, writing: “Be careful the caramel bits in it are rock hard.”

Other customers voiced their dissatisfaction on Reddit, with one user, @juiceforsyth, likening eating the new treat to “gnawing on a roof tile”.

Despite the backlash, some customers seemed to enjoy the dessert more than others. One Reddit user, @Adventurous_Low_8497, wrote: “Don’t know about anyone else, but I quite liked the hard caramel pieces.”

In response to these complaints, a representative from McDonald’s has confirmed that the Caramel Loaded McFlurry has been withdrawn from their menus due to a “quality control issue”.

Speaking to Belfast Live on September 17, a spokesperson for McDonald’s said: “We are aware of a quality control issue relating to the Caramel Loaded McFlurry and can confirm that the item has been removed from our menu.

“At McDonald’s, we place a strong emphasis on quality control and are disappointed by any instance where we fall short of our standards. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
