Meghan Markle’s choice of manicure has been seen as a sign of her breaking royal protocol and shunning the classic and natural look favoured by Queen Elizabeth II and sister in law Kate the Princess of Wales
Despite no longer being a working royal, it seems Meghan Markle still defies royal protocol with her latest style choice one that the late Queen Elizabeth II would have disapproved.
The Duchess of Sussex spent time in Jamaica last month where eagle eyed critics have spotted that one of her appearance choices would have been a serious no-no if she was still an active working royal. The former Suits actress accessorised her all black outfit at one appearance with a classic french manicure featuring a pink nail colour and white tip.
Whilst the actress’ choice of nail shade might not seem like a huge deal, it was still breaking royal protocol with rules decreeing that royal women will sport a natural look for beauty, including their nails.

Whilst it might seem a small rule, it’s one that the late Queen Elizabeth II and Kate the Princess of Wales both followed. In fact, one particular shade has been chosen as both of their favourite shade as Essie’s Ballet Slippers fits the rules of natural and discreet looking.
However an expert has pointed out that Meghan’s choice of manicure could be a subtle sign of her showing she’s no longer controlled by ‘The Firm’ now she and husband Prince Harry live in the US and are separate from the rest of the royal family.
Seriah Leslie, nail technician at Young LDN, told HELLO!: “Queen Elizabeth was the pioneer for this as her favourites were Essie ‘Ballet Slippers’ and ‘Mademoiselle’. Since Meghan has left her royal duties, we’ve seen her branch out in different new trends from dark nails to now the classic French manicure which symbolises freedom and independence while sharing her own genuine creative flare.”
She added that the classic white has always been considered “a staple”, but Meghan’s chosen “French manicure is the epitome of classic”.
The manicure rule breaking comes as fans have spotted that Meghan Markle appeared to have been “snubbed” by British Vogue editor Edward Enninful as she was missing from the magazine’s latest issue about legendary women. The impressive line-up of models, designers and A-list celebrities on the front of the March 2024 edition included the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams, and Jameela Jamil, but Meghan didn’t even get a mention.
The reason for the latest snub is believed to be after Meghan and Edward had a bitter fallout over the former Suits star’s demands when she guest edited the publication in 2019. According to royal biographer Tom Bower, Meghan exasperated the British Vogue editor over “poor ideas” and clashed with Edward and his staff.
