Men taunted family of missing dad by ‘streaming violent assault online’

Two men accused of torturing a missing dad allegedly shared footage of him being attacked and photos of his injuries in text messages, a court heard.

Andrew Burow, 56, a cybersecurity worker, has been missing from his home in northern Brisbane, Queensland, since August 20. An investigation by police has led to the arrest of Anthony Perrett, 38, and Billy Howard, 26, who have been charged with torture and remanded in custody.

The prosecution at Maroochydore Magistrates Court alleges that Howard streamed a violent assault on Mr Burow live on FaceTime to a former partner and it is claimed that police have found photos which showed Mr Burow “severely beaten”.

Mystery remains over what has happened to Mr Burow but is alleged that he endured days of torture, where he was repeatedly beaten, between August 20 and 26 at a property in Kelvin Grove, Brisbane.

There are now numerous crime scenes in place stretching from the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane and they include various properties. A house in Bli Bli, believed to belong to a relative of one of the accused, has been investigated by detectives where a burnt mobile phone, zip ties, alcohol wipes and a handwritten note with the address of Mr Burow’s parents was found.

A firearm wrapped in cloth was found at another property. Forensic officers have also been examining Mr Burow’s sixth-floor apartment in northern Brisbane for clues about what may have happened to him.

Meanwhile, telecommunications data allegedly shows the two accused and Mr Burow travelling together between August 21 and August 26 as well as money being transferred between Perrett and Howard’s bank accounts, reported 9NEWS.

Friends of Mr Burow say there was no reason to suggest anything strange was going on prior to his disappearance and he appeared to be “normal”. Neighbours in Mr Burow’s apartment complex have also expressed shock over the situation.

“We as a family have kids — we are supposed to live in a really safe place,” one resident told 7NEWS, echoing the growing anxiety in the community.

Perrett, from Sippy Downs, who owns a building company had a request for bail turned down by the court on Friday with both he and Howard, from North Lakes, being held in custody until their next court hearing on October 13.

In court Perrett’s lawyer argued police evidence against his client was weak with little more than a text message he allegedly received from Howard, containing a picture of the victim with visible injuries.
