Hollywood actor Michael Alaimo has died at the age of 86, his family have confirmed
Michael Alaimo, who’s best known for his roles in Space Jam and the Oscar-nominated The China Syndrome, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2. Michael’s daughter, longtime TV PR and communications executive Gabriella Alaimo Thomas, confirmed the death of her famous father to Variety.
In Space Jam, Michael portrayed a doctor, appearing beside Michael Jordan, Wayne Knight, and Bill Murray. Along with starring in many movies, he’s made many appearances on television, such as in the series, Cheers, The Wonder Years, Scrubs, Barney Miller, Mr. Belvedere, Hill Street Blues and Betty White’s Off Their Rockers.
Although the cause of death hasn’t been disclosed as of yet, an official statement revealed that Michael, “passed away peacefully.”
Michael studied theater at Brooklyn College and in the 1960s he was involved in Joseph Papp’s NY Shakespeare in Central Park, leading a commedia dell’arte troupe. Michael also dabbled in political activism with East Harlem’s highly influential Gut Theatre.
After moving to San Francisco, California, Michael toured with the anti-war show F.T.A. before he moved to Los Angeles in 1973. It was while he was in Los Angeles that Michael got his big break as he landed his early roles, The Six Million Dollar Man, Cannon and Harry O.
On television, Michael featured in fan favorites like Cheers, The Wonder Years, Scrubs, Barney Miller, Mr. Belvedere, Hill Street Blues and Betty White’s Off Their Rockers.
