Dr Michael Mosley once shared how he managed to shed a stone in under a month all thanks to some simple food swaps in your everyday diet, which will help you lose weight ‘fast’
As the festive celebrations come to an end, people may be thinking about kicking off the new year with a diet plan.
While we all enjoy eating well over Christmas, some people will use the fresh start in order to get their fitness and healthy earing back on track – and this simple diet trick will help those looking to shed some extra Christmas pounds. It is hailed by the late weight loss guru Michael Mosley, who managed to lose a stone in just 21 days, and shared exactly how he did it before his sad death last year.
The late TV doctor said that reducing one type of food and replacing it with another works “very fast.” Dr Mosley, who was a regular on This Morning, shared how he managed to shift 14lbs in just three weeks thanks to the Fast 800 Keto diet, which he developed with his wife, Dr Claire Mosley.
However, it should be noted that the special diet should not be followed as a long-term lifestyle plan, due to its restrictive nature. Instead, it is recommended as a short term, rapid diet to help those who need to shift unhealthy weight fast.
So how does it work? Following a keto diet basically means reducing the amount of carbohydrates you eat, while increasing protein, healthy fats and vegetables. It fits perfectly with the life-extending Mediterranean diet, which is built around fruit, vegetables, seafood, beans and nuts.
In The Fast 800 Keto, Dr Mosley recommends following the rule of 50:50 – keeping carbohydrates under 50g per day and ensuring protein remains above 50g, all while keeping your daily calorie intake around 800 to 1,000. Speaking previously in an Instagram video, Dr Michael explained: “When you’re on a Keto diet, the main thing is to cut out the sugary stuff, but also the carbs – that means things like potatoes and rice. Instead, you pile in all those luscious, green leafy veg.
“The point of a Keto diet, is when you go on it, you lose weight very fast, but it also suppresses your hunger hormone, something called ghrelin. On top of that, it also helps preserve your muscles.”
This diet is very restrictive and not designed to be followed in the long term. In fact, the Fast 800 team recommends following it for no more than 12 weeks, or until you have achieved a normal BMI (body mass index). Then, you are encouraged to move to Mosley’s 5:2 or Way of Life diets.
The New 5:2 is ‘fasting’ on two days a week by restricting calories to 800, while Way of Life is a “nutritionally-balanced guide to eating a healthy Mediterranean-style diet for life”. It comes as research in recent years has found the keto diet to be effective for those with type 2 diabetes to help reduce central obesity and manage blood sugar levels.
