England hero Michelle Agyemang provided a calm “no comment” after being dubbed “the equaliser” for her efforts at Euro 2025. The teenager brought the Lionesses level in both knockout ties, with her leveller against Italy coming with just seconds of normal time remaining.

Agyemang, 19, has yet to make her first senior start for England. She hasn’t been overawed at all in Switzerland, though, impressing on her tournament debut against France before coming to the rescue twice to help Sarina Wiegman’s side reach Sunday’s final.

“Denzel Washington has got a run for his money. Perhaps The Equaliser 4 is actually Michelle Agyemang,” host Harriet Rose told Agyemang on That Lionesses Podcast Connected by EE. While the Arsenal starlet gave short shrift to the new nickname, she did recognise the gravity of her goals in Zurich and Geneva.

“I think [it’s sunk in], especially like the day after,” Agyemang said. “It was crazy to just see like how far we’ve come especially from the first game to now and to know that we’ve done that together as a team is great… to be here and to be at a final again.”

Agyemang has come in for plenty of praise throughout the tournament, not least for her maturity and humility. And team-mate Alex Greenwood has echoed the comments from the rest of the squad.

“I know she’s so young and I have no doubt she’s going to have such an incredible career and score so many goals for England,” Greenwood said before turning to Agyemang and adding: “But the journey we’ve been on in this tournament and the timing of the goal, how important the goal was, she got us back in the game and ultimately like it was the difference maker and I just think you deserved to enjoy your moment.

“The fans obviously in front of the fans, your family is to the left of you, I just think I just thought if I didn’t do it, I would’ve been so disappointed for her not to have that moment for herself and she deserved it.”

There has been clamour for Agyemang to be given a first senior England start in the final, but Wiegman already has a lot of depth in attack with Alessia Russo starting every game so far. “She’s not forcing me. She is very grateful that she gets minutes,” Wiegman said after the Italy game.

“She’s ready for it. Her growth and development went so quickly. From not starting at Brighton and being on loan, to getting lots more minutes, showing how good she is, and coming into our team, as things go it has been pretty smooth for her and I think she feels very good about that.”
