Mike Tyson and Jake Paul will finally settle the score in the ring – with the pair set to go glove-to-glove in a heavyweight showdown on November 15 at the AT&T Arena
Mike Tyson has claimed Jake Paul is “manufactured” ahead of their controversial boxing fight.
The two boxing stars will finally settle the score in the ring on November 15 at the AT&T Arena in Arlington, Texas in front of up to 90,000 fans. The pair were supposed to go head-to-head back in July, however, Tyson was forced to pull out of the original contest after suffering an ulcer flare up. While the 58-year-old has insisted he’s fit and ready, many fans have been left concerned and are fearing for his health ahead of the contest
‘Iron Mike’ officially hung up his gloves nearly two decades ago. The boxing legend retired from the sport after losing to former Irish heavyweight contender Kevin McBride back in 2005. That said, he did compete in an exhibition clash against Roy Jones Jr four years ago.
As for Paul, the 27-year-old has been competing fairly regularly since making his professional debut back in 2020. The young American has already defeated the likes of Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz and Ben Askren. His only defeat in the sport came on points against Tommy Fury last year. The YouTuber-turned-boxer comes into the fight with Tyson off the back of a win against Mike Perry back in July.
Ahead of the controversial heavyweight fight, Netflix have confirmed that they will be releasing a three-part, behind-the-scenes documentary series, capturing inside footage from the fighters’ training camps. The official ‘Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson’ trailer was released on Wednesday afternoon. In the promo, Tyson highlighted the one main difference between him and his upcoming opponent.
In the trailer, it shows a brief clip of Paul calling out ‘Iron Mike’ after his win over Perry, saying: “Mike, I love you. But I’m going to take your throne, brother.” Reacting to the post-fight call-out, Tyson was watching on and briefly chuckled before saying: “He’s a manufactured killer, I’m a natural-born killer.” This appears to be a slight dig at the young American, with the 58-year-old potentially implying that ‘The Problem Child’ only started training in the sport a few years ago, while he’s been competing in the ring his whole life.
With the clash with Tyson just under a month away, Paul has watched hours of tape to study the veteran’s previous fights and believes he will try “to trap me on the ropes and then get blows off to angles on each side.” When asked what his tactics will be, Paul replied: “To just box on the outside and then use my footwork to be more agile and get him chasing me and then attack him when he’s out of position. That should frustrate him.”
After receiving a lot of stick about taking the fight, when asked at a recent press conference why he’s fighting Tyson, Paul replied: “Making history. This is what it’s all about for me, man. I’m a kid from Ohio. They’ll never give me credit. That’s the way it is. If I was walking on water, they would say it’s because I couldn’t swim. And this is to make history. The people think I’m going to get knocked out by this strong, powerful guy.
“All the people in my comments say, ‘look at his power. He’s going to get KO’d.’ This has taken a chance to fight somebody as vicious as Mike can be. You got to risk it for the biscuit. That’s the name of the game.”
