This Morning’s Queen of Clean Lynsey Crombie has shared her expert advice on the best place to store milk in the fridge, and it seems not many people know about it
UK households have been issued a warning about storing semi-skimmed milk in their fridge door. Semi-skimmed milk – which contains just two per cent fat content and is the most popular type of milk sold in the UK – should not be stored in the fridge door, according to an expert.
ITV presenter and ‘Queen of Clean’ Lynsey Crombie revealed on This Morning that the fridge door is the worst place to store your milk. She explained that not many people know this, but the door is known to be the warmest part of the fridge.

Dairy company Arla UK supports this view, stating: “When milk gets exposed to air it will lose its freshness quicker and go off much faster, so it’s important to keep it sealed and store it in a chilled place.”
They added that to ensure long-life and maximise freshness, milk should be stored in the fridge as soon as it’s bought, at a temperature setting of one to four degrees Celsius.
If possible, they recommend storing milk at the back of the fridge where it will remain consistently chilled, safe from the constantly changing temperature outside and safe from going off, reports Birmingham Live.
In response, one viewer insisted: “Milk can’t go anywhere else apart from the door otherwise it will leak in your fridge.”
Someone else chimed in with: “Milk goes in the door because there’s less chance of it leaking if it’s stood up. The door is the only place it can stand up.”
Another person disagreed, pointing out: “Actually she’s wrong. Old fridges yes, but new ones are cold all over.”
A different user suggested a simple solution: “Buy milk that doesn’t leak, or close it properly.”
One person confidently shared their experience: “I put mine on the correct shelf and have never had a problem.”
Meanwhile, another contributor supported the advice, stating: “She is correct, meat goes there too and usually that shelf has a lip – in case those things leak – to prevent contamination.”
