Missing Andrew J W: Hunt for Brit who vanished after doing something ‘very unlike him’

Fears are mounting for a British expat who vanished from Marbella over a week ago.

Andrew J W, 66, was last seen in the Costa del Sol on August 15, and friends have voiced growing alarm on social media, describing his disappearance as “very out of character.” One fellow Brit called him “lovely” and revealed he left behind his two cats – something “very unlike him.” The charity SOS Desaparecidos is now urging anyone with information to come forward. They describe Andrew as around 5ft7 inches tall, of medium build, with black hair and a greying beard. At the time he went missing, he may have been driving a black Volkswagen Golf.

The news comes amid another worrying disappearance abroad. In Greece, 59-year-old British tourist Michele Ann Joy Bourda vanished from a sunbed on Ofrynio beach in Kavala while her husband slept. Authorities issued a Silver Alert after failing to locate her and warned her life could be in danger.

Greece’s Hellenic Coast Guard confirmed a sea search is underway. Ms Bourda was last seen in a beaded two-piece swimsuit, yellow beach shoes, and red sunglasses. She is 5ft6 inches tall, slim, with blue eyes and shoulder-length hair. Reports suggest her belongings were left on the beach, and when her husband awoke, she had simply disappeared.

DEMAND ACTION FOR MISSING PEOPLE

Too many missing people are falling through the cracks – harmed while away, and ignored when they return.

We need a proper government strategy led by the Home Office, Education, and Health departments to stop this crisis.

Right now, there’s no real support. People go missing again and again – yet no one’s asking why.

We’re calling for:

  • A new national strategy for missing children and adults
  • Proper support for missing people when they return
  • Investment to stop people going missing in the first place

At 10,000 signatures, the government has to respond. At 100,000, it will be debated in Parliament. That’s our goal – real action.

You can help by signing our petition here.

Chris Bourda, 66, said his wife had been “quite happy” that day before she disappeared. Describing their day together before she vanished, he said: “She had seemed quite happy that day. We went for a short swim as it was windy and there were a few waves. She then ordered a few crepes and said we could have a nice sleep after. Unfortunately, I fell asleep first and when I woke up she wasn’t there.”

When he asked a nearby waiter if he had seen her, Chris said he was mocked. “I went back to the waiter to say my wife was missing, have you seen her and he started laughing,” he recalled. Chris eventually convinced a shopkeeper to call the police but has accused local officers of showing little urgency.
