Mohamed Salah aiming to snap EIGHT-YEAR wait at Wembley as poor record continues

By staff10 August 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Mohamed Salah has struggled to replicate his best form at Wembley and hasn’t scored under the arch since his first appearance there back in 2017 as he prepares to return for Liverpool in the Community Shield

Mohamed Salah will be aiming to snap a poor record at Wembley this weekend with the Liverpool star not scoring in his last SEVEN appearances at the iconic venue.

His latest trip to the London venue comes as the Reds look to claim the Community Shield, where they are hot favourites to see off FA Cup winners Crystal Palace. For Salah though playing under the arch has not bought much fortune.

The Egyptian scored on his first visit there way back in 2017. That goal came in a heavy loss to Tottenham and since then he’s continued to fire blanks at the country’s biggest and most famous stadium.

Salah has since played at Wembley with Liverpool in another Premier League game, several other Community Shields, FA Cup semi-finals, finals and two Carabao Cup finals – all games where the prolific forward failed to find the net.

The most recent of those at in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle back in March, where the Reds were on the receiving end of an upset. The Magpies securing a 2-1 win that day with Salah and his fellow attackers largely nullified as their hopes of a trophy were dashed.

It also serves to fed the narrative that Salah has struggled to produce in finals, something that is backed up by the stats. In seven major cup finals for Liverpool – and that’s not including Community Shields and European Super Cups – the Egyptian has scored just the one goal and that was penalty against Tottenham in the 2019 Champions League final. He has also not provided an assist.

Scoring from the spot also means he has failed to grab a single goal from open play in any of those finals, despite often being prolific in the lead up to those mega events.

Salah’s record against Palace will be a positive for the player, who has scored nine times against the Eagles in his 14 appearances against them for Liverpool, including one last year in the 1-1 draw at Anfield on the final day of the season.

Fortunately for the 33-year-old, who signed a new deal with the club last season, he will have added support in the final third this term. Concern has previously been raised regarding Liverpool’s reliance on Salah for goals but Hugo Ekitike is now part of their attack and Alexander Isak could yet join.
