EXCLUSIVE: Former Love Island star Molly-Mae made National Television Awards viewers emotional when she dedicated her win to Rob Burrows for a very ‘close to home’ reason

Molly-Mae Hague celebrated an incredible career milestone on Wednesday night at the 2025 National Television Awards when she picked up the award for Best Authored Documentary for her Amazon Prime series, Molly-Mae: Behind It All.

The former Love Island star, 26, was visibly shocked and equally as ecstatic when her name was called out as the winner as she beat the likes of Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden and Rob Burrow to the poll.

Following her sudden split with fiancé and professional boxer Tommy Fury last year, Molly-Mae’s documentary followed her journey of healing and trying to navigate a broken heart in front of the entire nation.

The six-part series, which quickly became the most watched programme on the streaming service when it first aired back in January, also unveiled Molly-Mae’s parenting struggles and gave an honest birds-eye view into what life looked like for her co-parenting her two-year-old daughter Bambi with Tommy, who was at the time, struggling with alcohol issues.

Molly-Mae’s first reality TV series after Love Island proved to be a huge hit and it ultimately ended in her picking up her first National Television Award – however not everyone is happy about the big win.

Given that the reality TV star was up against tough competition, including Amy Dowden, who was nominated for a documentary about her battle with cancer, Freddie Flintoff’s documentary following his near-fatal crash on Top Gear, and a film on Rob Burrow’s journey with motor neurone disease, many have insisted that the former Love Island star didn’t deserve to win because her documentary series wasn’t as emotional and poignant as the other nominees.

Despite scooping the award, Molly-Mae chose to dedicate her win to her fellow nominee, Rob. The Leeds Rhinos rugby league player, died in June, 2024, at the age of 41 from motor neurone disease. Taking to the stage, Molly-Mae used her moment to celebrate Rob and his widow Lindsey, telling the audience: “This one is for you Rob.”

During her speech, Molly-Mae said Rob’s story was “far more inspirational” than her’s, and that just to be nominated was “an honour”.

“Just to be nominated for this award was such an honour,” she shared. “I think as you guys saw, we were up against some seriously inspirational people in this category.

“To Lindsay, Rob Burrow’s wife and his children, his story was far more inspirational than mine could ever be. It was just incredible and touched me in more ways than I can explain. This one’s for you Rob, and to the other inspirational people in this category.”

Speaking to The Mirror after her incredible win, the YouTube sensation said that it only felt right to dedicate her win to Rob because motor neurone disease is ‘close to home’ for her.

“There were so many inspirational stories in my category and Rob Burrows documentary touched me so much. I know his wife Lindsey was campaigning for him to win this so I just felt that it was important to dedicate this award to him tonight,” Molly-Mae said.

“He is so inspirational and the awareness he raised around the disease is just incredible and it’s a cause that feels very very close to home for me.”

After her huge win, Molly-Mae said it meant the world to her to be recognised for her hard work and honesty about the struggles she has been through this year.

“Just speechless. Last night at the NTAs I shared a category with people whose stories will always be more powerful and inspirational than mine. I see that, I believe that and I want to acknowledge it again here.“It was only right to dedicate this award to the late Rob Burrow and his family and to the remarkable people in my category… this win belongs to them. I’m so grateful for the recognition but even more grateful to have stood alongside such strength and inspiration.“To everyone that voted… I am absolutely blown away. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
