Morecambe FC: Ex-EFL club reveal they are days away from extinction in shocking statement

Morecambe FC are just THREE DAYS from folding entirely after a fresh statement revealed the true crisis at the club. The former EFL club are mired in financial difficulty amid a host of failed takeover attempts.

The Lancashire outfit were relegated from the Football League at the end of last season, with the National League having already suspended the club from the upcoming campaign. But the situation has since worsened.

Prospective new owners Panjab Warriors have urged much-maligned owner Jason Whittingham to accept their terms of a sale, with the club having now ceased all football operations due to a lack of insurance.

A statement released on social media read: “As of Monday, 4th August: The Club is officially shut. £0 in the bank and no cash on site means operations cannot continue. Senior staff have taken the heart-breaking decision to stop working after months of holding the Club together under impossible circumstances.”

The statement continued: “Without an agreement today: The Club will rapidly disintegrate. Staff and players are leaving – soon there will be nothing left to sell. Jason Whittingham your legacy is in your hands.

“You will be remembered in Morecambe not for your intentions, but for the outcome of today. Do the right thing, stop the suffering.”

Panjab Warriors rounded off the statement by urging Whittingham to end the current crisis by pushing through a deal. “Panjab Warriors are ready and have reached out daily to complete this acquisition,” it read.

“The fans, the minority shareholders, the community, and your own stakeholders all want the same thing: for this Club to survive. Sign the Deal. Save the Club. Today. We implore Jason to sign the deal immediately so that this proud Club can be saved and its 105-year legacy preserved.”

Morecambe were previously Football League members for 18 consecutive years but suffered relegation to non-league last season following a dire campaign. The Panjab Warriors had their takeover bid approved by the EFL back in June but as it stands, a deal has yet to be ratified.

Whittingham then sacked every board member after they threatened the club with administration to push through a takeover. He eventually invited them back but they resigned after a deal was still not completed.

Morecambe were set to get their new season underway against Boston United away from home, that game having now been suspended after a decision by the National League. Further matches against Brackley Town and Scunthorpe have also been suspended.
