‘Most gripping’ novel with ‘unexpected twists’ is just 99p on Kindle this month

By staff14 June 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

The novel was published back in 2021, and has earned a reputation for being a real page-turner that you won’t be able to put down

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of being utterly engrossed in a book. When you can’t tear yourself away from the unfolding story, it’s a sure sign that you’ve found a gem, and for many, psychological thrillers are their first choice.

If you’re a fan of spine-chilling plots with gut-wrenching twists, then there’s one title you should add to your reading list. Elizabeth Day’s ‘Magpie’, released in 2021, was hailed as the ‘most gripping psychological thriller of the year’ on Amazon.

And for the month of June, it’s available for just 99p.

The novel is among hundreds currently on offer in the Kindle store for just 99p. These deals rotate monthly, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for any titles that pique your interest.

‘Magpie’ spins the tale of expectant mother Marisa, a children’s book illustrator, and her partner Jake, who have recently moved into a new home, ready to start their family, reports the Express.

Having endured a difficult and abusive past, Marisa believes life couldn’t be better now she has her loving partner by her side. However, this bliss is disrupted when a lodger moves into their property.

Kate, the new tenant, is everything Marisa isn’t – sophisticated, professional and seemingly lacking any concept of personal boundaries. Marisa becomes increasingly aware of Kate’s intrusive behaviour at home, particularly her unhealthy fixation with Jake, who remains oblivious to it all.

Marisa’s instincts scream danger as she embarks on a quest to uncover the enigma that is Kate and her intentions with their family. The revelations that follow are more harrowing than Marisa could have ever anticipated.

‘Magpie’ epitomises the essence of a gripping read, promising to ensnare readers with its unpredictable narrative right up to the last page. Tackling intense subjects like motherhood, infidelity, avarice, and remorse, it’s hardly surprising that the book boasts stellar reviews on Amazon, averaging four out of five stars.

A reader was captivated, exclaiming: “Could not put it down, it gripped me from the first few chapters. Well done Elizabeth Day, beautifully written. I absolutely loved it.”

Another enthusiast praised: “An original tale with unexpected twists and turns. Wonderfully written to keep you engaged to the end. Will be reading more from this author.”

The book is available to buy here.
