Attempting to get your oven door looking streak-free and sparkling once again can be a nightmare, but Mrs Hinch fans have an unlikely – and cheap – solution to the problem
Anyone who’s a regular in the kitchen knows the sheer horror of trying to scrub the oven clean.
It seems to gather grime in no time, with stubborn brown stains building up over months and even starting to emit an odd odour during cooking if it’s not kept spotless. But let’s face it, cleaning the oven is a dreaded chore that requires serious scrubbing power and precious hours.
However, if your once gleaming oven is now dull and crying out for a deep clean, Mrs Hinch enthusiasts are on hand with top-notch advice to restore its shine. On the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group, a woman sought help for her oven glass door, which was plastered with dark brown marks, asking: “How do I get this off the oven door, it’s caked-on?”
While many might instinctively grab a scourer to tackle the mess, that’s a big no-no as it can scratch the glass, leaving it looking worse post-clean. Instead, several Hinch Army members recommended a surprising household item – a dishwasher tablet.
One person advised: “Use a hard dishwasher tablet (not a liquid pod) and rub it on. It will come off so easily.” Echoing this, another added: “Dishwasher tablet, covered by a hot wet cloth, no pressure needed. Go round in circles and come back, it’ll be done in no time.”
A cleaning expert has warned against using harsh materials to clean surfaces, stating: “Don’t use anything abrasive. It can cause tiny little cuts in the glass and could shatter when it gets hot. Rubbing it off with a dishwasher tablet is the best thing to do.”
A Facebook user chimed in with a handy tip, saying: “Buy a cheap dishwasher tablet, dip it in water then rub. It only takes two minutes, no hassle at all”. Asda’s Just Essentials dishwasher tablets are available for £1.34 for a pack of 30, making each oven clean cost just 4.5p.
