Mrs Hinch fans have shared their top tips for cleaning white towels, with many suggesting an affordable product that can be used to help make them look brighter than ever in just one wash
White towels can often be the bane of your bathroom, swiftly collecting every speck of dirt and make-up.
Yet, Mrs Hinch superfans – devotees of cleaning sensation Sophie Hinchliffe – have shared a game-changing tip to restore your white towels’ sparkle in just a single wash without breaking the bank, using good old household staples. The economical hack involving bicarbonate of soda – a bargain at only 59p – has been the talk of the town among the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group.
When one member posed the question: “How do you get white towels whiter?”, the overwhelming response was to throw half a cup of baking soda into the mix with their regular detergent. One enthusiast advised: “Add half to one cup of baking soda to the load along with your detergent.”
Meanwhile, another sage clean-freak recommended coupling it with vinegar, explaining: “Vinegar and baking soda in the wash in hot water. Wash then cold rinse. I put a squeeze of lemon juice in the rinse. Makes them smell good and helps get the baking soda off the surface of the washer as well.”
If baking soda isn’t your cleaning agent of choice, other group members were quick to sing the praises of Napisan – a potent, germ-killing stain remover which proclaims to obliterate germs and grubbiness even in cool temperatures and is a staple for parents tackling stained baby clothes.
One person suggested: “Just like you did with terry nappies soak overnight in Napisan then wash at 60C.” Another cleaning enthusiast concurred, adding: “Napisan does the trick. It’s usually in the baby section in supermarkets as it’s for washing nappies. But great for anything white.”
A third chimed in: “Wash with Napisan!” You can find Napisan in most supermarkets, with 800g boxes retailing for £4.20 at stores like Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, and Tesco. While Ocado lists the product at exactly £5, bargain hunters can snag it for a mere £3.20 at Wilko.
In another savvy tip, a mum recently shared how a clean towel could slash your energy bills – by reducing the drying time needed for your laundry. Carolina McCauley explained that by throwing a clean towel into the tumble dryer with your damp clothes, the towel will absorb some of the moisture.
After about 15 minutes, remove the towel to prevent the dryer from working too hard on it, and you’ll find the rest of your clothes dry much quicker.
