High street favourite Marks and Spencer has caused a stir with the release of a new chocolate bar, which reimagines the flavours of a classic – though relatively contentious – sweet treat
Marks and Spencer shoppers are divided after spotting a new flavour of a classic – though contentious – chocolate bar being sold in stores. The high street legend, which was first founded in 1884, is known and loved for its vast array of top quality goods, ranging from on-trend clothing and accessories to furniture, beauty products, food and more.
Like many of its competitors, Marks and Spencer often makes waves on social media, with new product launches being shared to the masses online. Recently, a photo of its Lemon Turkish Delight bar was posted by the popular food and snack account, New Foods UK.
The food-centric page has cultivated more than 373,000 followers on Instagram, thanks to regular photo and video postings of the newest food items spotted in supermarkets and other stores across the UK.
Food fans are usually eager to share their thoughts and opinions on items showcased by the account, with Marks and Spencer’s Lemon Turkish Delight bar no different.
Standard Turkish Delight is typically flavoured with rose water and though it has many fans, it’s also no stranger to criticism. One Reddit user shared: “I had no idea so many people hated Turkish delight, a couple friends of mine said they hated it too.”
M&S describes its new bar, which costs £1.40 via Ocado, as: “Our Lemon Turkish Delight Bar is a zesty take on a classic confection. Citrussy lemon Turkish Delight is enrobed in smooth and creamy Belgian milk chocolate.”
New Foods UK simply captioned an image of the bars, spotted in stores, as: “New Lemon Turkish Delight Bars spotted at M&S!!” adding a shocked face emoji alongside a lemon emoji.
Shoppers were keen to share their thoughts – but not everyone was keen to give the new bar a try. One person said: “I don’t think so,” adding a nauseated emoji.
Another said: “I love Turkish delight… but no,” while a third simply said: “Gross.”
An Ocado shopper wasn’t overly impressed with the bar, either. They left a review which reads: “Very chewy, not really much lemon flavour, chocolate coating was nice.”
But others were keen to give it a try.
One Instagram user tagged a friend and said: “Yummy!” while many others also tagged people to direct their attention to the post.
The iconic retailer had humble beginnings as a market stall in Leeds before going on to become the high street juggernaut so known and loved today.
