Marks and Spencer’s luxurious new Easter egg has struck a chord with shoppers but its hefty price tag has really got everyone talking.
A staple on the British high street since 1884, Marks and Spencer continues to captivate shoppers with its diverse array of high quality goods spanning numerous departments. Customers can snap up chic and on-trend fashion, kit out their homes, fill their pantries with essential food and cleaning supplies, plus so much more.
Much like its retail counterparts, M&S harnesses the power of social media to keep its clientele up-to-date with all the freshest offerings across stores and online. To achieve this task, the store boasts a network of Instagram accounts, each one dedicated to its different categories.
Catching eyes recently was a photograph of the retailer’s Extra Thick Pistachio and Milk Chocolate Egg, showcased by the celebrated food profile, New Foods UK.
With a following that exceeds 371K on Instagram, New Foods UK has become a hit for consistently uploading snapshots and clips of the latest edible delights encountered in supermarkets and shops throughout the country.
The account’s posts usually ignite a buzz among followers who are quick to voice their enthusiasm and opinions for the featured items. Marks and Spencer’s sumptuous Easter egg proved to be no exception, sparking a flurry of comments.
New Foods UK added the image with a simple and succinct caption: “New Extra Thick Pistachio and Milk Chocolate Egg spotted at M&S!!”
The post quickly pulled in thousands of likes and a mix of comments. One eager shopper exclaimed: “Yes pls” and another agreed: “I need”.
A third commented: “Oh my days”, punctuated by a lovestruck emoji. Others simply tagged friends to make them aware of the coveted chocolate egg.
How much is Marks and Spencer’s Extra Thick Pistachio and Milk Chocolate Egg?
The luxurious Easter treat weighs 485g and retails at £20. The description on M&S’s website reads: “This exquisite, extra-thick Easter egg is made with Belgian 40% milk chocolate, with a layer of smooth pistachio truffle, and whole and chopped roasted pistachios. It’s finished with a coloured cocoa decoration and presented in a ribbon-topped gift box.”
The price point sparked debate. One person asked: “How much?” complete with a crying laughing emoji, to which, some answered: “£20”.
This led one fan to reply: “oh Christ! Maybe not then”, while another bemoaned: “20 quid?! No thanks! Be a mug to pay that!”
Meanwhile, one replied defensively: “For a quality product that actually tastes of something?” Yet another shopper insisted: “You can get a perfectly tasty product for half of that. Less than!”
