M&S shoppers’ ‘prayers have been answered’ by new Colin the Caterpillar product

Brits have been obsessed with the Colin the Caterpillar cake for decades and birthdays wouldn’t be the same without one. And now, a brand new version of the cake has launched

A brand new Colin the Caterpillar product has launched in M&S stores around the UK – and it’s sparked a flurry of responses.

Since launching in the 1990s, the iconic chocolate log has been a staple at birthday parties. And due to its popularity, Marks and Spencer has gone on to launch it in different forms. These include mini Colin logs, Colin fudge and more. But until now, we haven’t had the cake in frozen form.

Customers can now get their hands on an Arctic Colin the Caterpillar. The product is described by M&S as a “chocolately frozen dessert”. It consists of a Belgian chocolate log with chocolate sauce and chocolate sponge. Then, it is decorated with chocolate ganache and sugar coated milk chocolate beans.

The cake comes in a blue box that you will find in the freezer section of the supermarket. The instructions suggest taking the treat out of the freezer 40 minutes before serving.

A post shared on popular new foods discussion page, Sweet Treat Reviews UK, said: “Our prayers have been answered – check out who just landed into M&S Food stores! Arctic Colin the Caterpillar in a chocolatey frozen dessert!”

While many people are excited about the launch, a number of shoppers can’t get over the price.

The post added: “Perfect on this sunny bank holiday. Question is would you pay £16?”

Even though the cost is a bit steep to some, others can’t wait to try the sweet treat.

One gushed: “Omg I want this.” Meanwhile, another individual said: “I am sure it is delicious but somewhat pricey.”

A third added: “£16 is a ridiculous price for that, can understand £8.” A fourth remarked: “I think we’re all in shock at the price.”

A fifth added: “£16? Maybe for Xmas / birthday celebration but just because… absolutely not! M&S is an amazing but they get it wrong so much with pricing sometimes! However people I guess will buy.”

Meanwhile, a further commenter agued: “£16. You’re a mug if you pay that. Will not be trying it. Got stand up to these companies openly ripping us off. I love Marks but this is too much.”

Some defended the pricing, though. One fan wrote: “He is taking up the full shelf so thinking he is big. £16 may sound steep but I guess it depends how many he feeds! Be good for parties and cheaper than a large cake.”

The Mirror have contacted Marks and Spencer for a comment.

In other chocolate news, KitKat launched a ‘ghostly’ new flavour and people can’t wait to try it. Plus, Cadbury launched a new selection box that shoppers aren’t impressed with.
