A mum-of-two has shared her ‘hack’ of finding bargain toys for her children in Smyths – just in time for Christmas. People were shocked when she revealed her receipt
Christmas is known as the most magical time of year. But for some, it can be the most stressful in terms of how expensive it can get.
So with that being said, mum-of-two Meggi tried to make the festive season run smoothly by sticking to her budget of £100 per child. She went shopping for presents at Smyths – and people were shocked when she revealed the final price.
Taking to TikTok, Meggi, who runs her own eye lash company called Meggi Lashes, documented her entire shopping trip in Smyths as she looked for presents for her three-year-old son and one-year-old daughter.
The first thing she did was to walk to the area that stored toys for £10 or lower. It didn’t take long for a bag full of dress up and doll accessories to catch her eye, as well as a set with a tiara and shoes fit for a princess. Both of these sets were an affordable £8 each and would go down a treat with her daughter.
For her son, Meggi found a dinosaur sound book called Noisy Dinosaurs, to which she said: “A tenner, you can’t go wrong. Going in the basket.”
“Amber is obsessed with my vacuum cleaner so I’m gonna get this” Meggi added, talking about a pink toy hoover for £14.99. She then showed a toy fishing set, complete with a fishing rod and a wide selection of sea creatures, that would be brilliant for her son.
“This is more of an expensive item,” she said, showing a Ms Rachel sing-along boom box. ” It’s actually £30 but I do think [my daughter] Amber is gonna absolutely love it.”
Meggi also picked up a Paw Patrol fire engine for a tenner and a space rocket toy for £17.99, complete with the rocket, a UFO two astronauts and hover accessories.
In total she spent £116 on all eight toys, leaving her under budget at £61 for her daughter and £53 spent on her son.
One person commented: “Honestly love this . I’ve got so fed up people saying you need to spend loads! It’s one day. My kids are 7/8 and two and we spent 150 each on them. We feel that’s more than enough.”
However, another viewer said: “This will only work for smaller kids though – as the older they get the more expensive they get.”
Meggi’s shopping trip didn’t end here though, as she released a second video showing her shopping the final presents at B&M’s toy sale, where a wide variety of toys were on offer for 3 for £20.
The first thing she picked up was a toy set, that came with 12 separate cars and dinosaurs, as well as similar one but with sharks. She also found a tool bench with a set of toy-tools included that also was part of the sale.
As well as this, the mum purchased toy pug and a doll with a swing set, for her daughter. Then for her son, she checked out a Jurassic world park toy, Paw Patrol Marshall adventure set, colouring book and a shark grabber.
In total. Meggi revealed she spent £186 in the two stores combined, getting 18 presents in total for her young kids and proving you don’t have to spend a fortune on Christmas presents. Excellent work!
