New York Police Department detective Alicia Stone died of an “unspecified cardiac arrest” at a hospital after she was found unresponsive in her hotel room last week
A “loving” mum-of-three has died after she had a Brazilian butt lift operation.
Devoted mum Alicia Stone, 40, was rushed to Fundación Valle del Lili Hospital in Colombia, after she was found unresponsive in her hotel room at about 6:30am local time on Thursday. The New York Police Department detective was pronounced dead one hour later.
Her cause of death was later listed as “unspecified cardiac arrest,” according to sources. Stone underwent a liposuction procedure and gluteal fat transfer procedure on October 16, just one week before her death, the sources added.
She had been taking pain medication and anticoagulants following her surgery and had been transferred to a hotel to recover. Her husband, Michael Stone, said he will request an autopsy and ask for a probe into Alicia’s death.

He told the Daily News: “The doctor who called me from Colombia just called me and told me my wife had just passed away. She didn’t have any information to tell me when I was asking her…Something just doesn’t add up.”
Michael continued: “To be called Thursday and told that she passed away, that is just shocking and hurtful. I don’t have the facts, and that’s what I need, the facts of what happened.”
He said Alicia was “perfectly fine” shortly before her procedure, and that she told relatives the day before her death that she ad been feeling alright. A fundraiser for Stone’s family praised Alicia as a “loving mother of three, and a dedicated public servant who spent her career protecting and serving others,” reports the New York Post.
The fundraiser added: “Alicia’s kindness, courage, and compassion touched everyone she met, both in and out of uniform. Her unexpected passing has left a tremendous void in the lives of her family, friends, and fellow officers.”
According to the US-based Cleveland Clinic, tens of thousands of people in the US get Brazilian butt lifts each year. During the procedure, excess fat is removed and purified fat is injected into incisions around the patient’s buttocks.
It added there are several risks to having the procedure, which can include:
- Your butt contains many blood vessels and nerves. If the cannula strikes any of these structures during the surgery, it can lead to injury, a fat embolism or death.
- Bruising.
- Infection.
- Skin discoloration or changes in skin sensation.
- Swelling or poor wound healing.
