Thousands of Brits are swapping holidays with their mates for adventure and party trips – with their mum.
A quarter of people are planning “mumcations”, with a third of them heading to bucket list destinations. Thailand and Argentina top the list for those seeking adventure, while Las Vegas and Ibiza are the party hot-spots.
With Mothering Sunday Day fast approaching on March 30, research by Booking.com found traditional mother-child spa retreats and sightseeing tours are making way for a new wave of adventurous and unconventional getaways.
A third of mums travelling with their kids are also seeking something completely new and exciting, with safaris top the list of activities, followed by zip-lining and white-water rafting.
It’s not just adventure and adrenaline mums are seeking – almost four in 10 say they love a good night out and a third are up for a beach club experience.
The research found mums aren’t just great travel companions, they also bring a practical perk, including always packing the essentials, looking after the passports and even helping to pack suitcases.
Ryan Pearson, UK and Ireland Regional Manager at Booking.com said: “Travellers aren’t just choosing to holiday with their mum for relaxation – it’s about stepping out of their comfort zones and experiencing something new in a stress-free way.
“Whether it’s partying in Ibiza, backpacking through Asia, or taking on adventure-filled activities together, we’re seeing a rise in multigenerational travel that goes beyond traditional family holidays.”
