Mum’s jaw drops after seeing size of newborn baby and asks ‘he came out of me?’

By staff12 September 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

After giving birth to a newborn that weighed as much as a four-month-old, shocked Florida mum Daniella Hines asked doctors ‘Whose baby is this? He came out of me?’

Daniella Hines got more than just a surprise in the delivery room, she got a big one: a baby boy tipping the scales at 13 pounds, 15 ounces, nearly twice the size of an average newborn.

Florida mum Daniella Hines is taller than the average woman, standing at six feet, while her husband, Andre, is an impressive 6’2”. So perhaps it’s no huge surprise that their new baby, Annan, weighed in at a whopping 13 pounds, 15 ounces – almost twice the size of the average newborn.

She told TODAY.com that she could scarcely believe it as doctors performed her caesarean earlier this month.

“I remember thinking, ‘What are they pulling out of me? What is going on here?’ I felt so much pressure,” Daniella laughed.

She added that once she saw her new son, she realised why the birth had felt so strange: “He was so big. I was like, ‘Whose baby is this? He came out of me?’” Daniella said.

Once word got around that Daniella had given birth to a baby that was the size of an average four-month-old, staff flocked to get a look at the new arrival.

“Everybody starts coming in because it’s not every day you see an almost 14-pound baby pop out,” Daniella said. “He was like a little celebrity.”

She added that she was delighted that her new son had been featured in a local news broadcast: “I can’t wait to show him when he gets older: ‘Look, you were in the news!’”

Daniella says that the plus-sized tot is “really chill” most of the time, but he has quite the appetite, which, given his chunky dimensions, is fair enough: “We didn’t expect such a big blessing,” she says, “but it’s just more to love!”

The absolute largest baby on record was born to a woman named Anna Bates in Seville, Ohio, in 1879. The infant, whom his parents named “Babe,” weighed in at an almost incredible 23 pounds, 12 ounces (10.5 kg).

The Guinness Book of Records reports that when Anna’s waters broke, she lost an estimated six gallons of fluid.

Anna and her husband Martin were both over seven feet tall. They worked as sideshow performers who toured the world, billed as “The Tallest Couple Alive.”

Sadly, their child only survived for 11 hours after his birth.

The largest baby to survive infancy weighed 22 pounds, 8 ounces (10.2 kg).

Born to a woman named Carmelina Fedele in Aversa, Italy, in September 1955, the baby – despite a number of recent challengers –still holds the record for the heaviest-ever successful birth.
