Music lovers celebrate 30th anniversary of ‘genius’ album ‘still relevant today’

By staff21 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

An album celebrating 30 years since its release has been hailed as a timeless ‘masterpiece’ by fans, who believe it’s as relevant now as it was on its release back in 1995

An album which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this week has been hailed as a “masterpiece” by music lovers. The album in question will receive a remastered re-release to celebrate the anniversary, which topped the charts back in 1995. It’s perfect timing to celebrate the band’s massive chart success too following their Mercury Prize nomination.

Though the band may have lost out on the award, many listeners are returning to Pulp’s Different Class, which released on October 30, 1995. With the anniversary soon upon music listeners, many were filled with praise for the decade-defining album. Many believe the record has “aged impeccably” and that it’s the “best album” of the mid-1990s.

A post to the r/indieheads Reddit page had fans of the group heap praise on the album. One person wrote: “Masterpiece.” Another added: “It’s a brilliant record and it has aged impeccably.”

A third shared: “It truly is an unrivalled piece of mastery that, for me personally, feels like a formative piece of music, even though I was already 25 at the time.”

Others believed the album was the peak of the so-called Britpop period. One person wrote: “The peak of Britpop and one of the great records of my lifetime. Doesn’t show its age at all.”

Another added: “The best Britpop record of the 90s. The only other ones that comes close for me is Suede’s Dog Man Star and Elastica’s self-titled. Pulp’s recent concerts shows Jarvis has still got it.”

The band released their first album in 24 years, More, earlier this year. Months after its release and the 30th anniversary remaster of Different Class was confirmed by the band.

Frontman Jarvis Cocker said: “This 45rpm double album version of Different Class will make it sound a whole lot better. We were obsessed with the fact that this was our ‘Pop’ album and, as everyone knows, all pop albums have 12 songs on them: 6 tracks per side.

“Only problem: this took the running time of the record to 53 minutes. We were told this would compromise the audio quality of the vinyl record – but we were more bothered about not compromising the quality of our Pop Dream.

“Now, 30 years later, we are finally ready for Different Class to be heard in all its glory.”

Fans are delighted to be celebrating the anniversary, and were equally thrilled by the “Pulp day” declared on social media earlier this year.

April 10 was declared “Pulp day”, the day the band announced their latest album. BBC Radio 6’s Lauren Laverne played a series of Pulp hits, including ‘Do You Remember the First Time?’ and ‘Common People’, which left social media users calling Pulp Day “glorious”.

Another user shared a drawing of the band and wished everyone a “happy Pulp Day”. One user wrote: “Lauren Laverne listeners currently knocking it out of the park with their Pulp selections.” Another added: “Almost a Pulp takeover. Glorious.”
