One woman has been in the festive spirit for almost a month already after she decided to put up her Christmas decorations on September 1 – but many think it’s wrong
Christmas is officially 91 days away – but some people are in the full swing of the festive season already.
Summer is officially over, and next up in the celebrations calendar is Halloween, the spookiest time of the year. But Bobbie-Jo Pritchard, 24, from Wales, truly wishes it could be Christmas every day, as she’s taken TikTok by storm thanks to the fact she’s so Christmas obsessed, she’s already got her tree and decorations up.
You may wonder when @bobbiejochristmas, put them up, and she admitted it was on September 1, so she can get over three months of Christmas cheer in her home.
In the comments of her videos, she frequently gets told “It’s too early” for decorations, but Bobbie-Jo shared that that there’s a reason for it – she doesn’t celebrate Halloween, so Christmas is all she has to focus on. However, others said her TikTok was a “safe space” because they also felt the same about the festive season. Her videos receive upwards of 800,000 views a time, so it’s safe to say some people are enjoying her content.
Online home store, Wayfair UK, spoke with Bobbie-Jo to ask her why she decorates for the festive season so early. “Christmas has always been a big celebration in my family. Growing up, my mum was putting our Christmas trees up in October and we would make a big celebration of it”, she shared.
Bobbi-Jo said that Christmas brings her a “joyous feeling” that she’s “never experienced with anything else”, so “the moment the calendar turns to the ‘ber’ months”, she likes to decorate.
Daniela Venturini, Art Director and Trend Forecaster from Wayfair UK, said that “traditionally”, the best time to decorate for Christmas is “four Sundays before Christmas day”. But she said: “Decorating early has been proven to give people a boost, therefore, the earlier you decorate, the better!”
It’s worth being aware of the “problems” that may come with decorating early though, Daniela shared: “One thing to steer away from is over-decorating as this can overwhelm a home and make it look slightly cluttered. If you want to get in the Christmas spirit right now, decorate minimally for now and build it up the sooner it gets to the festivities”.
She also said if you’re buying a real tree, rather than a faux one like Bobbi-Jo has, it may be worth holding off until the end of November, as otherwise, it won’t “look its best”.
