Amazon has discounted Sony’s excellent-quality WH-1000XM5 Noise Cancelling Headphones – and there are several stylish colour options
Sony’s “best ever” noise cancelling headphones are almost 20% off thanks to Amazon’s Spring Deal Days sale. Throughout the event, shoppers can enjoy huge discounts on thousands of products.
One of the standout offers has seen the Sony WH-1000XM5 Noise Cancelling Wireless Over-Ear Headphones dropped in price from £299.99 to £249 if you opt for the black, smoky pink, or midnight blue headphones.
According to Sony, the WH-1000XM5 offers the brand’s “best ever noise cancelling headphones”. The product description states: “Headband style wireless headphones with Industry-leading noise cancelling, exceptional sound quality, superior noise-free calls and ultra comfortable design.”
I can personally vouch for the quality of the headphones. I saved up for a pair last year, and while I’ve never spent as much on headphones before, I think they’re worth every penny.

Admittedly, I’m no tech pro, so I can’t comment on how the technical specifications compare to other models, but the headphones look and feel luxurious. I love the 30 hours of battery; they’re comfortable to wear; and the noise cancelling and adaptive sound control work well.
While the headphones are collapsible, they don’t fold up—something to keep in mind if you’re looking for handbag-sized headphones. It’s also worth mentioning that they don’t stay put during intense workouts. I’ll happily walk for miles wearing my headphones, but they’re not so comfortable for running.
They’re certainly popular with Amazon reviewers, who rated the headphones 4.4/5. One reviewer wrote: “One of the most comfortable premium headsets available at the moment. It does not fold away like its predecessors but still manages to sound and feel amazing. The Sony WH-1000XM5s are a fantastic pair of headphones that offer exceptional noise cancellation, impressive sound quality, and all-day comfort.”
Another said: “These headphones are seriously amazing when it comes to blocking out the world. I can barely hear a thing when I have them on, which is perfect for my commute or when I need to focus at work. The sound quality is top-notch too – music sounds rich and balanced, with just the right amount of bass.
“I also love how clear phone calls are. People on the other end say I sound great. My only gripe? They don’t quite stay put when I’m working out. If Sony could improve the grip a bit, these would be the absolute perfect headphones.”
However, someone who shared mixed feedback wrote: “Comfort wise, these are good, and if the cups were slightly deeper, would have been excellent, as it is, my ears do touch the fabric on the inside against the grill, which can get annoying. They are reasonably light, but not the lightest of similar products. They look good though, no faults on that front.

“ANC performance is fantastic, maybe slightly better than my AirPods Max, though each outperforms the other in certain areas. I do think the Sonys take this though, but only by a whisker. Lots of noises are completely eliminated, like car sounds. Voices, less so.
“Sound quality is disappointing, I have headphones sub £100 which sound better. Put against the AirPods Max, there is no competition, the highs have more sparkle, and the lows, have far more energy and tighter control. Even playing with the eq, things get a little better, but never really come close. Compared to my Sundaras, the Sonys hang their head in shame.”
Another commenter added: “Unfortunately the ear pads are so shallow on the WH1000-XM5 that my right ear pressed up against the driver in the cup making them extremely uncomfortable to wear – which is a shame because the ANC is really good and the sound quality is decent too.”
Alternatives available from other retailers include the Bose QuietComfort Headphones, currently on offer for £249.95, the SONY WF-1000XM5 Wireless Bluetooth Noise-Cancelling Earbuds for £219.99, or the Apple AirPods Max for £469.
