A grieving woman took the brave decision to still go on her honeymoon despite her fiance passing away just weeks before their wedding – and documented her solo travels online

A heartbroken woman decided to go on her honeymoon despite her partner tragically passing away just days before their wedding.

Laura Murphy was set to marry her long-term partner Devon O’Grady, who suddenly passed away from a heart attack while at work just a few short weeks before their big day.

Devastated by her loss, lawyer Laura bravely decided to still go on the honeymoon that had been planned for the pair and documented her travels as she went, which led to huge support from strangers online and over a million views on her videos.

Canadian-born Laura was struggling to come to terms with the heartbreak, and she needed to see if “life was still worth living” after Devon’s death, so packed her bags and went on the trip.

She told The Washington Post: “It’s very lonely and isolating because I knew no one my age who had lost a partner. I needed to find people who could relate because I wanted to know how to go on. I also felt I needed to remove myself from my hometown and our house. I was just sort of sitting there for months not knowing what to do with myself.”

Laura’s trip around Europe was shared on her TikTok channel where she connected with many people going through something similar. She shared her travels around London and France but said it was “very out of character” for her to travel alone and even more to be documenting it. She also shared some of her more vulnerable moments as some days she opened up about having a “good cry” and spending the day in bed.

Despite the difficult times, she said she was pleased she still went on the trip and received a mass of support from people who loved keeping up with her travels. Taking time to address the support, Laura said in a video: “I have truly been so overwhelmed with all of the love and I wish I could respond to everyone and hang out with you all.

“I remember saying to my dad, ‘I need you to find me someone who has been through this’ because I needed evidence that it was possible to survive it.”
