‘My neighbour’s 6am daily habit is ruining my life and they won’t stop’

A woman has told how her neighbour has been doing the same irritating thing at 6am every day for two months – and it is keeping her awake

Many of us aren’t best friends with our neighbours, but it’s always easier if you can avoid any major disputes by being civil. After all, you might need them to water your plants when you’re away on holiday, or ask permission to prop a ladder in their garden for roof access.

This mutual respect should extend to simple courtesies like being polite when you bump into them on the street, and crucially, considering how your actions might affect them – especially when it comes to noise. We’ve all had those moments where we want to blast a tune a bit louder than usual, or need to fire up a noisy blender for our morning smoothie. That’s perfectly fine, as long as you’re mindful of the time and the racket you’re making.

However, one woman has claimed her neighbour isn’t showing this consideration. In fact, for the past two months, they’ve been doing something at 6am that’s been completely ruining her mornings.

The neighbour isn’t whipping up smoothies or undertaking a noisy DIY project that might warrant the disturbance – instead, they’ve been blaring the same country music track at full volume every single morning.

In a Reddit post, the woman revealed: “My neighbour plays the same country song at 6 am every single day. It starts at 6 am sharp, and it’s loud enough to rattle my nerves this early. For 2 months straight, they’ve played the same country song every morning, and now the lyrics are burned into my brain.”

The frustrated resident explained she’s attempted knocking on her neighbour’s door, posting a note, and even contacting her building’s manager, yet nothing has prevented her neighbour from blasting their beloved tune.

She continued: “I don’t even know if I hate the song or the fact that my mornings are hijacked, but I’m exhausted and edgy by noon because of it.”

Fellow Reddit users expressed sympathy for the woman’s plight, though many pointed out that her neighbours weren’t technically breaching any rules if the noise occurred during acceptable hours for their building.

One commenter observed: “They’re not really doing anything wrong … it’s likely they’re timing their morning routine to the song. Your description of noise level isn’t helpful, and you seem to just hate the lyrics/song over the noise.”

Another suggested: “It’s probably their wake-up alarm. Maybe invest in some earplugs.”

Meanwhile, a third user posted: “You really can’t do anything about it. Is it over and over and over? Or just once?”.

“You’ve left letters, asked, and even reported, but [if] it’s during the hours when noise is allowed, most likely nothing will be done. Maybe get a fan? White noise? Classical music?”

In the UK, individuals creating noise above the allowed levels between 11pm and 7am can be given a warning by local councils. Therefore, playing music at high volume at 6am might fall under this category.

However, rules may vary in other countries. If the woman resides in a flat with thin walls, her neighbour’s music might not be sufficiently loud to merit a warning.
