‘My toyboy wants to meet someone his own age – but I don’t want our relationship to end’

Not all relationships are short-lived. When you meet the right person, you want to keep them close -but for one woman, that became an increasingly difficult challenge.

Though love knows no bounds, the woman was overwhelmed with self-doubt after meeting her younger partner while stuck in an unfulfilling marriage. The two met at work, and instantly hit it off, but now she’s left feeling confused and hurt after her lover expressed a desire to move on and date someone closer to his own age.

The woman, who sought advice from Metro’s sex and relationship columnist Laura Collins, admitted that she quickly regretted her actions, having hoped the relationship would develop into something more serious.

The anonymous person said: “What started as a silly bit of flirting has blossomed into something more, and we’ve been meeting up in secret since the end of last summer.

“I think about him all the time and wish I was young and pretty like I used to be. He has an amazing body, knows every button to press, and sex with him is like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.”

She tried to remain hopeful, but reality was starting to set in. Despite the strong connection they shared, the age gap and her complicated marriage were always lingering concerns.

She continued: “However, recently, he’s admitted that he’s met a girl of his own age who he really likes, which tells me our relationship is on borrowed time. I feel sick when I think of losing him, but I know that sooner or later, it will happen.”

Sharing her advice to the confused woman, Laura explained that while the affair may be thrilling, it’s jeopardising everything in her life. She recommended that if the woman believes her marriage has run its course, she should have the courage to move on and embrace single life, allowing her to explore relationships freely without deceit.

The writer said: “Having an affair with this young guy sounds like the most exciting thing that’s happened to you in years, but you don’t need me to tell you that you’re putting your whole way of life at risk.

“If you feel your marriage has run its course, be brave enough to start again as a single woman, so you can have all the flings you want without cheating.

“Alternatively, if you value what you have with your husband, you need to end things with your lover right now.

The sex columnist suggested if the woman and her husband’s sex life has become stale, they should address it. To save the marriage, she recommended focusing on improving their intimacy at home.

She also advised that it was time they both moved on, writing, ” Frankly if he’s involved with someone else, he’ll probably be glad you’ve saved him a tricky job.”
