Campbell Scott, 58, was found dead in a forest in Kenya after he was reported missing by his colleagues. A taxi driver and nightclub waiter have been arrested
Police in Kenya are on the hunt for a mysterious figure linked to the tragic death of British businessman Campbell Scott. Reports suggest that the 58-year-old Scot may have been kidnapped and brutally tortured before his body was abandoned in an isolated forest.
In their investigation, detectives are eager to interview two individuals seen with Campbell during his last moments in Nairobi. CCTV footage caught one of the men with Scott prior to his disappearance, with police suspecting that he hailed a cab and accompanied the victim to a notorious local slum.
Franklin Wallah, of Citizen TV, shared: “Investigators are pursuing crucial details into arresting key suspects who are considered to be persons of interest in the brutal murder of British national Campbell Scott.”
He elaborated, “Among the two is this man. Police say they are pursuing him to record his statement. It is suspected the man is the one who requested a taxi and took a ride with the deceased to Nairobi’s Pipeline estate.”
Following a tip from a local herder, Dunfermline native Scott was discovered lifeless roughly 60 miles from Nairobi, his limbs restrained with rope. The ongoing investigation has led to the apprehension of two men: a taxi driver and a nightclub waiter, reports the Daily Record.
While the taxi driver, having provided a statement, was granted bail, it’s believed that he directed law enforcement to Scott’s final known location, and his car has been impounded as part of the investigation.
Scott, a top worker at a credit scoring firm, jetted into Nairobi’s posh Westlands district for a business trip on February 15. He was last spotted the next night with an unknown man after a night out clubbing.
CCTV footage surfaced on Monday showing his final known movements as he ambled through a car park donned in a blue rugby shirt decorated with the Scotland flag on the shoulder and shorts. A harrowing image displaying what purports to be Scott’s body, clad in the same attire he was last seen in and lying on his back on an opened sack, has since circulated on social media.
Next to him in the picture are pineapples – which cops revealed were discovered in the sack alongside the body. It’s believed his assailants were attempting to disguise themselves as fruit sellers if they were halted at a roadblock with the dead body.
Squads spent hours on Tuesday at the remote location where Campbell’s disfigured body was discarded. Kenyan newspapers reported that detectives are investigating a theory that he was detained against his will at a house on the Pipeline estate while robbers nicked his cash.
Franklin Wallah added: “Plans are underway for an autopsy as police work on forensic analysis of the deceased’s mobile phone and his bank accounts. Police want to find out if there are any financial transactions prior to Scott’s killing.”
Scott had travelled to the city for a business event at the JW Marriott hotel and was sharing accommodation with workmates. On Sunday at 11.15am, Scott departed from his residence under the assumption of combating jet lag with a brief stroll before their conference session.
He never came back. His worried colleagues contacted the authorities, prompting a vast search effort that eventually enlisted Interpol’s help.
Following the grim discovery of Scott’s remains, local reports suggested he suffered signs of torture and possible strangulation. The exact cause of death awaits verification from an upcoming post-mortem.
A Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Kenya and are in contact with the local authorities.”
