‘Neighbour was using my drive for free parking and one act got him to stop completely’

A neighbour taking advantage of a homeowner’s driveway soon stopped after one act. The success story proved to be quite a surprise, with the petty revenge taken against the person next door working. Parking woes are all too common but there seems to be a working solution for those wanting to reclaim their driveway from advantageous neighbours.

In a furious post to the r/NeighboursfromHell Reddit page, a woman shared what the “final straw” was and how she got her neighbour to stop using the drive. They shared the neighbour had viewed the driveway as “extra parking” rather than part of her property, and there were too many occasions where they had been “blocked” from their home.

But they have since managed to reclaim their spot, and all it took was for the neighbour to suggest it was “no big deal” that he was using the driveway for visitors.

The homeowner explained: “I’d come home from work (I’m a nurse, so some days I’m wiped out), and there’s a random car blocking me. One night I literally had to park halfway down the street and carry five bags of groceries because his buddy’s truck was in my spot.

“Every time I said something, he’d do that half-smile and go, ‘Oh yeah, sorry, they’ll be gone soon.’ Like I’m the one being difficult.

“The final straw: I get home late Friday night after a 12hr shift. Still in scrubs, starving, with takeout that’s already getting cold in the passenger seat.

“And boom, giant white SUV just parked dead centre in my driveway. Not even off to the side. Like, full on blocking me from even pulling in. I knock, no answer. I call Jack, he finally picks up, and super casual goes, ‘Oh yeah that’s my in-laws. They’ll only be there a couple hours. Just park on the street, it’s not a big deal.’ That was it for me.”

The homeowner has since shared their sweet revenge came in the form of a tow truck company, which were happy to take the SUV away, much to the horror of Jack and his in-laws.

She added: “I called a tow truck. Tow guy showed up in 20 mins, SUV was gone before I even finished half my fries.

“About an hour later, furious pounding on my door. Jack’s beet red, his in-laws are yelling in the background, and he’s going off about how I ‘didn’t have to take it that far.’ I just said, ‘You told me it wasn’t a big deal, so I treated it like it wasn’t a big deal.’ Then I closed the door.

“They had to pay almost $300 (£212) to get their car back. And funny enough, ever since then, my driveway has stayed crystal clear. Not even for ‘just a sec’.”

Members of the public were full of praise for the resident, with one writing: “Congratulations, you just unlocked ‘Neighbourhood Parking Enforcement Officer’ mode. He gambled on your kindness one too many times. Lesson learned.”

Another added: “Blocking a nurse after a 12-hour shift? That man deserved every penny of that $300 (£212) lesson. Honestly, you had way more patience than I would’ve. I’d have called the tow truck the second time it happened.”
