Shreddies is a breakfast cereal made from whole grain wheat, known for its square, woven shape. It has a long history, dating back nearly a century. Shreddies were first introduced in Canada in 1939 by the Nabisco company (National Biscuit Company). The woven wheat squares were designed to be a nutritious, whole-grain breakfast cereal.
The cereal was launched in the United Kingdom in 1941, becoming a popular breakfast staple over the following decades. Nestlé acquired the Shreddies brand in the UK in 1988 and some other markets, producing the cereal under its Cereal Partners Worldwide (CPW) joint venture with General Mills. In Canada, however, the brand remained under Post Consumer Brands after Nabisco’s cereal division was acquired.
Shreddies has expanded over time to include variations such as Frosted Shreddies, Cocoa Shreddies, and Honey Shreddies.
