Rapper and Netflix star Ghetts has been charged following a fatal hit and run. The incident took place in London on Saturday October 18, according to the Met Police.
Ghetts, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, is alleged to have failed to stop at the scene after hitting a man with his vehicle in Redbridge Lane East, Ilford. The 20-year-old victim has since died in hospital.
Clarke-Samuel, 41, appeared at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on Monday. The musician has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 27. Police are still seeking witnesses to the crash to get in contact.
Clarke-Samuel has millions of listens on Spotify, featuring alongside the likes of Skepta, Stormzy and Ed Sheeran. He also performed in Glastonbury in 2024.
In 2008, he was also nominated for a BET Award for Best International Act: UK along with Chipmunk, Giggs, and Skepta. His music has also featured on national radio, including BBC Radio 1.
He won the Best Male Act at the Mobo Awards in 2021 before receiving the Mobo Pioneer Award three years later in 2024 for his contribution to British black culture.
The Mobo winner is also known for playing the role of menacing villain Crazy in Netflix’s Supacell. He took on the role of the character who had been released from prison and instantly immersed back in a world of violent crime.
He had also starred in 2018 crime thriller The Intent2. The movie’s synopsis labels the movie about a man’s allegiance to his crew and a ruthless organised crime boss cripples his dream of setting up on his own.
