The Gentlemen star Theo James has opened up about a particularly memorable date he went on while at university, which ended with a very unpleasant surprise in his bathtub
Netflix charmer Theo James dropped quite the saucy anecdote about receiving an unexpected “present” after a university date and it’s one that might just leave you grimacing.
While spilling the beans during a game of Two Truths and a Lie at the Emmys FYC panel, which was moderated by Entertainment Weekly, James let slip that his lie was that he is related to actor Brian Cox (he is not), but rather the real scoop was that his date had left him a “small turd” in his bath as a departure gift.
Theo recalled with a hint of amusement: “At university, I went on a date that I thought went pretty well. We had some fun, and we were young and dumb and full of fun. And in the morning she had left, and there was a present for me in the bath. And it was a small turd.”

The audience erupted into laughter as Theo shared this bathroom blunder before he toned things down by admitting, albeit less sensationally: “I’m a quarter Greek!” Clearly, the star isn’t shy about divulging his cheeky escapades; on Andy Cohen’s Bravo show, he boldly summarised his love-making style in three vivid words: “Hungry, explosive and fluid”.
And if you thought the toilet incident was James’s peak reveal, the Daily Star reports that last year he casually mentioned a “carnal” sex scene with White Lotus castmate Will Sharpe that ultimately faced the cutting room floor. The actor candidly commented at the SAG Awards: “They cut the sex scene.”
But shouldn’t all fans get their minds out of the gutter, as Theo mischievously confirmed there was never a filmed romp to begin with, concluding with a chuckle: “It began in a kind of romantic way but then it gets very carnal, but [the director] decided to cut it. No! I’m joking, there was no sex scene. They’re just friends, I think. It’s an interesting question of sexuality and the boundaries of that, and whether there’s a sexual freestone between them, between [Fahy’s] and Aubrey [Plaza’s] character… It’s all there”.
He also confessed that the member he sported on set was a prosthetic, revealing: “So, you go into these scenes, and you have a conversation with the director, and the producers, and they go, ‘Okay, for this, we’re gonna use a prosthetic,’ and you say, ‘Okay, that sounds good’. I just wanted it not to be distracting. It needs to be ‘Regular Joe’. Because the scene, you know, it’s not about the pee pee, it’s about power play and sex. It’s about whether he did it deliberately or whether it was an accident and what that means. She says, ‘I got you. Yeah, I got you. Regular Joe.’”
He added: “I mean [the prosthetic] is bigger than that. It’s like she stole it off a donkey in the field! That thing is ginormous!”
